I'm thinking it's this dude... Jose Arturo Almendarez Carcamo

His mug shot looks eerily similar to that sketch. And if he's a drug runner, especially one who got caught, I'm not surprised he turned up dead. This article was from 2010, so it's plausible he'd be out of jail by 2017 -- maybe? Although a million dollars in drugs might equal a lot of time. I'll have to do a little more searching on that.

Side by side of JAC and the UID. Same face (the ears on the recon would be an approximation) same name--I think you may have another one here :)

Interesting for sure! I have no idea where to check to see if he is still in prison. Hopefully someone here can figure that out.

Dang it... unless he escaped, it looks like he's still in prison until 2022. Wow, does he have a brother!? lol I thought that seemed too easy but it got my blood pumping.

Carbuff, thanks for putting the photos side by side. I cannot believe the similarities. That's just too weird with the same name and everything.

It could be someone related to him. Sometimes people get tattoos of their relatives names in memorial-- maybe they thought he is dead because he has been in prison and didn't contact anyone for a long time? Maybe you could send it in as a tip that you think this is his relative? If the guy is still in prison they could do a DNA test easily enough (I think).

You might have something there. The Almendarez last name looks like it was potentially the first tattoo. Doesn't the "Jose" almost look like an after though? Like it came along a bit later? I could see maybe a guy having his own last name tatted on him and then when he thinks his brother is either dead or in jail, he adds the brother's name "Jose" as a in honor/in memorial.

I'm not sure what kind of priority they'd put on a DNA match like this, and what hurdles may come into play when pulling DNA from an inmate.

Who knows, there are probably quite a few Jose Almendarez's out there. Let's keep stewing on this and keep that theory in our pocket.

The tattoo of the Virgen de Guadalupe would hint that the decedent is more likely to be Mexican.

Yeah, the name does seem to be a common one.

There's also an entry in there that seems to say he was released in 2016? Is that for a different conviction? Are there two men with the same name in the system?

I saw that too. I think he might have served his sentence for that particular crime and then upon completion, immediately began serving for the additional crimes that are listed below. I'm not actually sure though.

This guy's NamUs page has been updated with the following:

"Recent (April 2021) fingerprint match to a man who told USBP personnel that his name was Jose Luis Ramos Barrera and that he was from Honduras. This man was apprehended near McAllen, Texas, in November 2016."

A mugshot taken in November 2016 has also been uploaded.
