Girl, 10, dies after being shot after 'road rage driver followed her family car in Arizona' | Daily Mail Online

A 10-year-old girl died after being shot along with her father in what may have started with a traffic dispute, Phoenix police said Thursday.

Sgt. Vince Lewis said the shooting that killed Summerbell Brown occurred Wednesday night when a man in a pickup truck that had been following a family's car fired several gunshots after the family pulled into their driveway.

Two other family members, the girl's mother and sister, weren't injured following the shooting around 5:45 p.m.

The pickup drove away and no immediate arrest was made.

Lewis said the fact that the pickup was closely following the victims' vehicle might indicate there'd been a traffic dispute. He said there was no immediate indication that the family and the shooter knew each other.

A statement from police said the family were driving home when they 'noticed a white Ford F-150 4-door pick-up truck following them very closely'.

When pulled onto their driveway the driver is said to have opened fire.

'It's possible that this was a road rage that started earlier in the area prior to the victim's family arriving at home,' Lewis told KTAR.

He added: 'Driving is a stressful situation that requires all of your attention, so if you do encounter an aggressive driver, we’re asking that you call Phoenix Police.'

KTVK-TV reported that the 30-year-old father, whose name was not released, told the station outside the family home Thursday morning that the shooting occurred after he got out of the car to confront the man who was following his car.

Police had said immediately after the shooting that the father also was critically wounded but then said Thursday morning he was recovering.

The man told a KTVK reporter that he wasn't badly injured.

Police said the shooter was believed to be a man 30 to 40 years old and driving a white pickup with a dark trim on the bottom.

omg. what in this world?! People are ok opening fire on others because they get ticked off about something while driving!?! I can't really express myself without losing it when it comes to this. It just makes my heart hurt. I hope and pray with every fiber in me that whoever did this is caught asap and is held accountable...ugh. :(:(

^^jmo^^

So heartbreaking. Poor little Summerbell.

Guns make it too easy. This afternoon, I went to a viewing of the 23-year-old daughter of a friend of mine who was the victim in a murder-suicide. She was 23, her murderer was 22. WTH? A split-second decision over something dumb that would have been fine the next day?

It also looks like maybe some paint transfer on the driver's side rear panel. Maybe?

This is something I've always been paranoid about. I never go home if someone is following me. I drive until I lose them or head towards the police department.

So senseless and stupid. Poor baby girl.

From my experience, pickup trucks, especially F150's seem to have a higher likelihood of having a driver who is more brazen and aggressive in road rage.

Hmm- that’s a pretty presumptive statement...

Certainly more than four door Buicks.

ROAD RAGE SUSPECT IN COURT: The suspect in the fatal road rage shooting of a 10-year-old Arizona girl, made his first court appearance Friday afternoon. Joshua Gonzalez, is being held on a $1 million bond and faces charges including first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evidence tampering.

That is so great they found such clear video footage of the car and the driver, and that tips came in quickly.

These types of cases just really disturb and anger me. I am happy that this man will likely never set foot outside of prison again. In one of the news clips they said he has a criminal history, so that will be another strike against him.

"It's still an emotional rollercoaster," says Taniesha Brown as she sits in her Phoenix apartment alongside her husband Dharquintium Brown.

"We did nothing to bring this onto us, we are 40 year-olds with a family who go to and from school and work," adds Taniesha.

The Browns were on their way home after picking up Summerbell and her older sister Autumn from the Boys and Girls Club in Tempe. Summerbell was sitting in the back seat of the family's car.

"You (referring to Joshua Gonzalez) didn't have any remorse, you still don't show any remorse, so we don't have any remorse," said Taniesha.
