AZ AZ: Tautiu Julajuj, Carlos Daniel, Pisinemo Village, found 8/1/2010 #UCP61272

Many of the decedents they find in AZ have clearly Mayan surnames. I have read a little bit about the persecution and poor conditions the indigenous Maya peoples have faced, and continue to face in Guatemala. Horrible to think about these people having to flee their own native lands and go through the ordeals of illegal migration only to die like this so close to their final destination.

I have a hunch that, for a Guatemalan Maya person, it would be quite easy to tell where this man came from and perhaps even who his kin are from the surnames "Tautiu Julajuj" (there are many different regional Maya languages + local dialects which may be reflected in his surname) ... the issue is just, how do we get people with that cultural knowledge looking at these cases? I know there are by now plenty of speakers of various Maya languages spread all over the U.S., so it's not like there's any shortage of people who might be able to interpret his name ...
