A woman abducted by an armed man wearing a wig and posing as an Uber driver was miraculously rescued when a gas station pit stop in Arizona gave her time to slip a note to a woman telling her to call 911, authorities said.

The case broke on Tuesday at about 5 p.m. at a Chevron in Seligman, in northwestern Arizona.

“Help, [redacted] call 911. Blue Honda van. [redacted] Going to Kingman and Las Vegas,” the victim’s note shared by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office reads.

Deputies responded immediately.

“The victim’s extraordinary action in passing the note, the customer’s willingness to assist, and the quick actions of YCSO and DPS saved the victim from her kidnapper and allowed her to return home with her family,” the agency said in a news release.

When deputies arrived at the gas station, the good Samaritan said the van had just left, was headed west on Interstate 40, and described the victim’s clothing and the man she was traveling with.

The sheriff’s office alerted the Department of Public Safety, which spotted the van at Mile Post 116 on I-40 near Seligman and made a traffic stop. Jacob Wilhoit, 41, was detained, and the victim was rescued. Authorities found multiple firearms inside in plain view, officials said.

Wilhoit was booked into the Yavapai County Jail for harassment, threatening and intimidating, aggravated assault, unlawful imprisonment, kidnapping, and other assault charges. It was unclear whether he has an attorney.

Thank goodness they got to her in time. There are an increasing number of incidents involving Uber/Lyft type transportation. (It should also be noted that it is sometimes the driver who is the victim.)
Taxi/hackney licenses were strictly regulated and a vehicle called or flagged down could be easily identified as a taxi. Now, even though the apps usually tell you what type of vehicle will be picking you up, people don’t always check. A good example is the murder of USC student, Samantha Josephson who hopped in a vehicle thinking it was her Uber driver only to be taken away and murdered.
I would be interested in seeing the circumstances leading up to this Uber ride. Was it an actual driver or a poser?

The woman, who has not been named by the police, got into a blue Honda van that she believed to be her Uber last Monday morning at a Phoenix-area car dealership, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office. But the van was driven by Jacob Wilhoit, 41, of Arizona, who is suspected of posing as an Uber driver, wearing a wig, to kidnap the woman. The two were acquainted, the police said, but she did not immediately recognize him. She had a restraining order against him after he had started visiting her home unannounced, according to a probable cause statement.

Sounds like she had a stalker and he disguised himself.
She already had a restraining order against him.

I think he knew her comings and goings.
I agree. Must have been following her. I wonder if she worked there and used an Uber every day from that location around that time?
ETA Fake Uber drivers tend to prowl areas with crowds leaving bars, sporting events, concerts, theaters, etc knowing that many have called for an Uber/Lyft.

Passengers and drivers should confirm the phone number and text for safety of both.
