An eight-year-old girl has died after having been raped in the night of 5 March and the following morning. She was visiting her older married sister's home in Magura when it happened, and the girl died after having spent six days in a critical condition in a hospital in Dhaka. The older sister's husband, his parents, and a brother was arrested after the rape, and when the news of the child's death came, an angry mob burned the house where the crime had happened.

On 1 July 2025 the High Court in Bangladesh accepted to hear an appeal of the sentencing in a lower court. I haven't found any news on the case in the High Court.
