Saw this on NCMPUR and got caught off guard by just how strange it is. Never seen anything like it.

Date of discovery: April 8, 2005
Location of discovery: Ferry midway between Horseshoe Bay (West Vancouver) and Departure Bay (Nanaimo) Ferry Terminals, British Columbia.
Sex: Male
Estimated age: 15-95 years old
Race: Unknown
Estimated height: Unknown
Cause of death: Possible suicide

On April 8, 2005, the blood and brain matter from a male was found on the outer deck of a ferry travelling from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay in British Columbia. A loaded revolver with one spent round was found nearby. He may have worn a black leather cap, and was likely despondent when last seen alive.

Never have I seen a case where they simply have nothing except brain matter and blood, let alone on a ferry midway through its trip. God knows how they even determined his vitals.

Was there any more info or news stories for this? I'm wanting to know the calibre of the gun if possible.

This is very interesting. Do you have more details?

Guessing, the decedent used the pistol to end his life -- and was then swept into the ocean.

Just a guess, but seems to fit the available information?

I suppose LE interviewed the ferry crew & passengers?

I suppose the weather was bad, keeping passengers inside?

Any tickets purchased that didn't arrive at the destination?

This crossing is apparently less than 2 hours for most trips:

NCMPUR no longer states that blood and brain matter were found. It does say his eyes were blue and hair was blond/red.

Taurus Model 65 .357 calibre
Yeah that's what I read but it also says "The Taurus Model 65 is chambered for .357 Magnum (and will also shoot .38 Special / .38 Special +P).". I'm not familiar with this sort of thing so I didn't know what to make of it.

Moo. I live on the coast, have to take ferry from horseshoe Bay to coast. Lived on coast for 30 yrs.
He probably came from Vancouver, if he was going to Nanimo on that ferry. You can drive from horseshoe Bay to lower n higher Sunshine Coast and get to Nanimo also..3 ferries involved.
Anyways marijuana was not legal till 2018. So it was big business on coast n island. It was the main business employer...no cartel, just people paying their mortgage.
But bulk buyer like motorcycle conglomerates did rent space up here for processing n packaging n storage.
You can drive or walk across on ferries. So he must of been a walk on, if no vehicle abandoned. Also easy access to horseshoe Bay by regular bus.
So could been business or depression. Be easy to find quiet spot on ferry
