Mrs SCHÖLLER-GYÜRE was last seen that Sunday evening when she went to sleep. On Monday morning the woman did not show up at the dentist’s appointment and later that day also not at her work in Mechelen. Her car, a red BMW 118D with number plate THQ-734, was found abandoned on the Rijnkaai in Antwerp.

“The conspicuous red BMW 118d is the only lead for the investigators. Monika's mobile phone is also in the BMW. According to colleagues, she always had it with her. However, there is something strange about that mobile phone, as appears from the transmission tower data. The mobile phone did not arrive in Antwerp together with the red BMW. The car was already there at 8 a.m. The mobile phone was still in Kalmthout at that time.”
“How do the investigators know that? Her dentist from Nijmegen, the Netherlands, called Monika on Monday, March 8 at 10:05 to ask where she was. Monika's cell phone then connects to the transmission tower in Kalmthout, but there is no answer.”
“Om 10u52 belt een kennis naar de gsm van Monika. Het toestel maakt dan verbinding met de zendmast aan de Rijnkaai in Antwerpen. Kort erna wordt de gsm uitgezet. De politie vindt het gsm-toestel drie dagen later terug in de BMW op de Rijnkaai. Wie heeft de gsm van Monika van Kalmthout naar Antwerpen gebracht en in de auto gelegd? Zijzelf kan het niet geweest zijn. Volgens haar man M.S. was zij maandag in alle vroegte vertrokken en is zij niet meer teruggekeerd naar Kalmthout. M.S. werkte zelf de hele dag thuis in zijn kantoor.”
