GRANITE CITY, Ill - A body was found in Granite City on Thursday morning on April 24th, 2025.
Very Few details have been released, but a body was found and here is what we know so far compiling the statements. This is now 24 hours after being found.
Body was found Alton Street near Pontoon Road. And the body was found by someone walking their dog along the train tracks. The tracks aren't in the middle of no where, and there is easy road access to this spot.
The man who found him said in a news interview that when he first saw the "man laying in the weeds near the track", that he wasn't sure if he was "alive or sleeping", but he was "laying face down" in a position one would if they were dead. He decided to leave and call the cops to check it out in case "he was sleeping and would wake up and rob him" so he was scared to approach the man.
Granite City police of Illinois, called and activated the St Louis Mo major crime squad to investigate and the only details we know are from the man who found him talking on the news. Police have made NO statements accept asking the public to contact the case squad if they know anything.

What we can assume from what we know:
1, To me this means it is suspected foul play, You don't call them in unless there's a need to investigate and this means they could probably tell the body had been dumped or homicide from a wound.
2. Though drifters are found by train tracks, these are close to the road and can be a dumping spot as well.
3. The body was not there long since the person who found him thought he might be sleeping. This means no odor from decomp and no visible decomp. Body hasn't been there long.
4. They have not released an Id, or even that he is a Man. We know this from the witness though it was a man.
I believe we may have a homicide in Granite City that's about to break more information soon. Will be searching Namus Missing against my list of locals. I am aware a missing person report was filed for a Hispanic man recently this week in a neighboring area so hopefully he did not meet foul play and he is located soon.
