Bonnie Jean Craig was brutally murdered in September, 1974. She was smart, adventurous, kind, and talented — a budding artist who had already illustrated two children's books. Her life was cut short just as she was about to enter Philadelphia College of Art to further her studies."

On Sunday, September 29, 1974, Philadelphia Police officers responded to the 2000 block of Rittenhouse Square and found Bonnie Jean Craig inside of her bedroom in her apartment on the second floor. Her hands and feet were tied to the bed frame with articles of clothing. She had been strangled with an extension cord. She was last known to be alive on Thursday, September 26, 1974.

Bonnie Jean Craig, 20 year-old White female, resided on the 2000 block of Rittenhouse Square. Anyone with information regarding Bonnie's murder is urged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department at 215-686-TIPS (8477).

Notes: the Philadelphia College of Art is now the University of the Arts (UArts), then as now on Broad & Pine Sts.. Also, "Rittenhouse Square" in this case is the name of a street, and, confusingly, the 2000 block of it does not actually front on Rittenhouse Square, one of the five public squares in William Penn's original Philadelphia.

Clippings from the Philadelphia Daily News the day after:

Never heard of this disgraceful murder, thanks for starting a thread for Bonnie, hopefully somebody will see this and write a new article.
Meanwhile, if any DNA is found, it would be so good if it was sent to Othram, this young woman and her family deserve it! imo.

The university the victim attended recently folded, but it's probably safe to assume that the PPD homicide detective at the time did due diligence in investigating Bonnie's classmates, friends and male acquaintances.
I am from Philadelphia and I am familiar with the 2000 block of Rittenhouse Square. I'm not old enough to remember what that area was like in the 1970's, but in the 1980's and onward it became a fairly high-end and desirable neighborhood (and remains even more so today), however, there still remains a number of multi-story brownstone rowhomes (particularly along Walnut St.) that are divided-up into smaller (Studio, 1BR, 2BR) apartments that typically rent to students (Penn, Drexel, Jefferson Med). I'm assuming that was likewise the case back then, or even more so, if the re-gentrification of Rittenhouse Square was still progressing.

After all this time has passed it's sad to think that her murder *may never be solved, and that the perpetrator may well still be alive (someone in their 70's), leading what on the outside appears to be a normal life, yet harboring his horrible secret that he committed this horrendous crime. Worse, he may have unsuspecting children, or grandchildren, a wife, all who see him as a normal, loving family man.

And if past accounts of these sorts of cold case crimes prove any example: it's exactly those types of murders who discreetly and covertly search the internet for ANY stories or information relating to their secret.

So if that is the case, and the case here, that person should know: there is a group of people (like myself) who will NEVER forget, and who will ALWAYS be searching for clues, TIPS, information, etc...that leads the authorities to your doorstep, and an inevitable knock on your door, at which time you will exposed before the world for the evil killer you are.

Welcome to Ws @neverstoplooking, glad to have more eyes on the case!
