Police search for British tourist who vanished four days ago in Brazil after heading to beauty spot to meditate

Police in Brazil are searching for a British tourist who was last seen heading barefoot to a beauty spot to meditate, it was reported today.

Katherine Sarah Brewster, 27, had been staying in an hippie commune in Alpestre, in Brazil's southern state of Santa Catarina.

She reportedly left the remote Dom Jose village early on Sunday to practise meditation at a nearby reservoir and never returned.

Other than at least she was only barefoot, this story immediately made me think of Maureen Kelly (though Maureen literally was only 'wearing' a fanny pack)

Maureen Kelly, from Vancouver, set out on a "spiritual quest" and walked away from a campsite at Canyon Creek Campground on Sunday around 5 p.m.

British woman who had been missing from an alternative rural community in the south of Brazil since last Sunday, sparking international concern and a police investigation, has been found alive and well.

Katherine Brewster, 27, from Seaford in East Sussex, had walked into a local forest to meditate and disconnect from modern-day comforts for seven days without telling anyone where she was going, got lost and was living in a makeshift shelter when she was found by a search party.
