Brian's Heart: Ogden murder victim lives on after organ donation gives new life to 71-year-old man
2019
''Before Brian passed, doctors began prepping his body for organ donation. Darcie said she vividly remembers saying goodbye to Brian before taking him off life support and doctors began harvesting organs for transplants.

“He chose to be a donor, and I was proud that he chose that,” Darcie said. “That just the kind of boy he was, always, like I said, Mr. Friendly.”

Miles away in Salt Lake City, a man lay in a hospital bed, his heart lightly beating. Where Brian’s life was ending, Ray Groth’s life was about to get a new start.
‘Never Give Up’
Ray had been in a Salt Lake City Hospital for weeks, his heart slowly dying''.

Darcie said she takes comfort in the fact that Brian’s heart is still beating. In fact, she hears it on a regular basis. During that first meeting between the Housleys and the Groths, Ray gifted Darcie with a stuffed animal equipped with a button that if pressed, will play a recording of Brian’s heart.

Ray is back to cross country skiing, even though Brian was a snowboarder. Recently he told Darcie that he was taking Brian up for his first cross country ski race.''

''Darcie recently received a letter from another man who received Brian’s kidney and pancreas. She hopes to meet him soon. She just wishes Brian could be around to see it.''

"Each year it gets a little worse. The anxiety just builds up and builds up and I just know that date's coming," Housley said. "And you think seven years and you haven't gotten anything new, I'm going to die before I know."

There's a $5,000 reward for new information leading to the closure of any unsolved homicide or cold case via the Utah Cold Case Coalition: 24/7 TIPLINE: 844-247-TIPS (844-247-8477).

"It's extremely hard because right after he was murdered we had to get the funeral together, I had to unwrap his presents I had under the Christmas tree to find clothing to bury him in," Housley said.''

After over seven years, an investigator and a mother hope that new information and new technology will help solve the murder of Brian Housley.
Aug 21, 2025,rbbm.
OGDEN — It’s been more than seven years since Brian Housley died, and more than seven years since his mother painstakingly chose the clothes to bury him in, something of which her son would have approved.

''Brian Housley was 28 when he died. The youngest of three boys, his family called him “Mr. Friendly.”

''Investigators were able to track down the original surveillance video that police had collected from the area of the shooting in 2017. They realized they have two days’ worth of video and can confirm that their suspect vehicle — a silver Jaguar — had driven by the house earlier in the day.

“They’ve been casing that place all day,” Zaccardi said of the vehicle in the video. “So now we have physical evidence that links the Jaguar to the crime scene before and we have information now that the Jaguar was in the area after the murder. ''

“We think we’re getting close,” Zaccardi said. “We’re analyzing with new technology. We’re analyzing the DNA that we possibly could have at the crime scene.''

''The Weber Metro Cold Case Task Force is raising money to help pay for DNA and other advanced testing on these cold cases through its website.
Anybody with information on these cases is asked to call or text the task force at 801-399-8672.''
