A far New South Wales south coast business is specialising in burying people at sea.

Merimbula's Sea Burials Australia ships dead people 40 kilometres out to sea.

The weighted-down bodies wrapped in shrouds are dropped into 600 metres of water.

Guy Richards says the service is for people who want an alternative to cremation and conventional burial.

"Some of the reasons we have been given are that people who were for instance adventurers, and for them it is the final adventure," he said
