The three girls moved in the McCormack residence in 2017 as foster children & were adopted 2 years later. The three suspects allegedly abused & tortured McCormack’s three daughters for about five & a half years, leading up to Aarabella’s death in late August, 2022.

2/26/25 Update: The Grand jury handed up an indictment charging the child’s adoptive mother & adoptive grandparents with murder & a special circumstances allegation of torture. That allegation makes the punishment either life in prison without parole or execution. Leticia McCormack and her parents, Stanley & Adella Tom, had already been charged with murder for the girl’s 2022 death but not the special circumstance allegation. They were slated to have a preliminary hearing in El Cajon on Wednesday, but that hearing was supplanted by the grand jury indictment the prosecutors secured last fall. Wednesday’s hearing was to set a future court date for further proceedings. The grand jury indictment lays out 641 overt acts by McCormack, her parents or her husband, Brian McCormack, that prosecutors said were committed in furtherance of an alleged conspiracy, including routinely depriving the sisters of food, water & bathroom trips. Some of the allegations arise from text messages to each other. Next for all further proceedings hearing on 3/17/25 @ 8:45am.

The trial for three adoptive family members accused of killing an 11-year-old girl is facing more delays and may not start until 2026.

Prior to the start of Wednesday’s hearing, Stanley Tom’s public defender, Samimi, asked the judge to prohibit members of the media from recording video of the public defenders’ faces. NBC 7 objected to that request in court on the grounds that it would set an unusual and harmful precedent for public access to public court proceedings in San Diego County and specifically in this case, as prior hearings did not have any such restriction.

Judge Cookson sided with NBC 7, saying she believes strongly in public access and transparency of court business, and allowed the continued camera access in this case.

NBC 7 objected to that request in court on the grounds that it would set an unusual and harmful precedent for public access to public court proceedings in San Diego County and specifically in this case, as prior hearings did not have any such restriction.

Judge Cookson sided with NBC 7, saying she believes strongly in public access and transparency of court business, and allowed the continued camera access in this case.

What a strange request, imo. Why would the public defenders not want their own faces in video recordings?

I think part of the nature of the job of being a public defender is to represent some awful people. (If that factored into the request.)

Thanks for finding the news article. Public Defender ashamed of having to defend them? What these defendants did is disgusting. It sounds like the adoptive parents were actually expecting a death by the text below, or where else was Bella going to go. I can't understand why these four people brought children into their home only to torture them. Four people all involved in torturing these little girls! His texts sounds like he wanted Bella to die soon, but consequentially, he killed himself immediately upon Bella's death.

MOO, the defendants knew what they were doing, they weren't just confused, bumbling new parents. All four signed up to some odd plan to mold these children by use of torture.

Prosecutors say Brian McCormack encouraged his wife Leticia McCormack via text to not allow one of the girls to use the bathroom and then let her sit in her own waste, according to testimony from the grand jury indictment. The text message read, “She can just soak in that [expletive] and get sick. Bella will be done soon and we will only have two to worry about.”​
