Los Angeles police are trying to find a 24-year-old mentally ill woman last seen Aug. 13 in Sylmar.

Alyssa Anne Lewis was last seen in the 13100 block of Hubbard Street, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Her mother Linda Lewis said on Wednesday her daughter suffered from “negative symptoms” of schizophrenia.

“It’s a really scary thing. She’s practically non-verbal,” her mother said. “It’s the absence of any emotion. The absence of any social interaction. The absence of verbal skills. The absence of any ability to have joy.”

Lewis had been living at a sober-living facility in Sylmar, her mother said.

“They had noticed a huge difference in her demeanor but she was still clean,” Lewis said, adding she was going to school at Los Angeles Mission College.

She is described as a white woman who is 5 feet 4 inches tall and about 105 pounds. She has brown hair and blue eyes.

If anyone has information about Lewis, they’re asked to contact the Missing Person’s Unit at 213-996-1800 or during non-business hours 877-527-3247.

In the comments, 3 different people say they saw her sitting under an overpass. All 3 seem to have called the tips in so I sure hope she is located and safely returned so she can get the help she needs. Super sad. :(

My next door neighbor is paranoid schizophrenic. It's scary stuff. This gal needs to be found before she harms herself or harm comes to her. Mental illness is no joke.

Agreed. The fact that her mom says she's practically nonverbal really drives it home.:(
