I live in So Cal and work daily with foster children, their foster parents, and often their social workers. I question the system EVERY DAY.
Thank you for whatever it is you do to help! Can't imagine how difficult it must be.

There are a lot of days I come home crying and I often suffer from what is being called compassion fatigue. No matter how awful I feel, I get to come home to a loving family. Sadly, many of the children I work with do not or have come from situations where they have not. While it does expose a sad side of CPS and the system, it also exposes how broken home life is for so many people. I don't know what the answer is, but I feel like we (society) need to address this so children never enter the system in the first place.

She had the baby on 12/2 and left on 12/23. Why did it take 3 weeks? Get warrants, get in there, who cares if they don't answer the door. Unbelievable.
- As a former Nurse who worked in newborn/ maternal health- depending on the extent of drug abuse, that the baby would have effects of cocaine and then withdrawl symptoms . Poor little one.

I think that the presence of illegal drugs in a baby's system is an indication that the mother has a substance abuse problem, but does that automatically mean that the mother is neglectful?

She was using drugs while being pregnant. That shows quite clearly where her priorities were. I am all for supporting addicts and helping them to treat their issues, but the children safety and wellbeing should be a priority. Always.

I would not fault CPS here. They may have been attempting to find placement for drug addiction treatment for the mother and baby, which has become far more complicated with Covid pandemic. And the mother may have been frustrated and left the hospital.

Mmmm, no. I do not think this is the situation here. Looks like whole family vanished and they need to be found, if only to ensure the kids are ok.
