The disfigured body of a woman was found in the Dominguez Channel in Carson Sunday night.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced Sunday that the woman’s body was “found floating in the Dominguez Channel with obvious signs of trauma to her body” just before 7 p.m.

The body was located in the 500 block of Carson Plaza Drive, which the Los Angeles Times notes is between the 405 Freeway and South Bay Pavilion Mall.

The Times also cited a media report claiming that the woman’s body was missing her legs, though KTLA could not immediately confirm that information.

Her identity has not been released.

Anyone with information is asked to call the LASD Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.

CARSON, Calif. (KABC) -- The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner is asking for the public's help in identifying a woman whose body was found in the Dominguez Channel with both legs missing.

The grim discovery was made about 7 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of Carson Plaza Drive, between the 405 Freeway and the SouthBay Pavilion Mall, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators said there were "obvious signs of trauma" on the body. The deceased woman was wearing a sleeveless, size XL, knit dress from Old Navy.

She also had a large skin tag on the right side of her torso and stretch marks on her lower abdomen.

Anyone with information was asked to call homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.

Height and weight are difficult to estimate in dismemberment cases where the remains are incomplete.

Also... Depending on how long she was in the water, race may be difficult to guess without DNA testing.

This body was only found less than a week ago, and recons take time, especially if the body is decomposed and the cleaned skull is needed to work from. They don't boil heads any more to clean them, because that makes it harder to get DNA, so they have to use other methods.

Height and weight are difficult to estimate in dismemberment cases where the remains are incomplete.

I figured she couldn't be very decomposed if they could tell that she had stretch marks. Maybe that's not correct.

I do think if they had her torso and head, which I assume they do since it only says her legs were missing, that they could ball park height and weight based off of standard human proportions.

Exposition Park grandmother missing from home for 2 weeks

A family is frantically searching for a 60-year-old grandmother who has been missing from her Exposition Park home for nearly two weeks.

'Prisciliana Rose Douglas was last seen the afternoon of July 23 near her home on W. 39th Street. She did not show up for work the next day and hasn't been in contact with anyone.

Prisciliana is described as a responsible mother of seven and a grandmother of nine and does not have any mental health issues, her family says.

"Her phone, her wallet, her purse are still on her bed and it's not like her to leave without that stuff," says her son, Dave Douglas.

She's described as standing about 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 140 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes and moles under her left eye.'
