West Sacramento police are investigating after a badly burned body was discovered Saturday morning near the 600 block of West Capitol Avenue.

The investigation is in its early stages, but police said the death is considered suspicious.

The body was burned so badly that investigators haven't been able to determine whether it was a man or a woman, Kinney said.

Identified - Tangerie Jones

The burned body found in West Sacramento on Saturday has been identified by the Yolo County Coroner’s Office as that of a 35-year-old woman, Tangerie Jones.

Sgt. Roger Kinney, West Sacramento police spokesman, said the department is still treating the case as a death investigation, and investigators continued to work in the field Thursday.

The Police Department released a flyer featuring a photo and description of Jones. Police say she was transient and lived at a camp near Jefferson Boulevard and Highway 50.

Her burned body was found in the 600 block of West Capitol Avenue about 5:17 a.m. Saturday.
