Carol in the mid-1950s (about a decade prior to her disappearance; more recent photos are unavailable)

  • Missing Since 06/02/1965
  • Missing From El Cerrito, California
  • Classification Endangered Missing
  • Age 25 years old
  • Height and Weight 5'0 - 5'5, 100 - 120 pounds
  • Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian female. Brown hair. Carol wears very thick eyeglasses and would be nearly blind without them.

[h=3]Details of Disappearance[/h] Carol was last seen in El Cerrito, California on June 2, 1965. When her sister went to visit her at her trailer home the next day, she found coffee on the stove and the lights turned on, but Carol was gone. She has never been heard from again.

Carol's husband, Harvey Arnold Norton, was arrested and charged with robbing a Sandia, Texas bank on July 14. He and a male accomplice stole thousands of dollars. When he was questioned about his wife, he said he'd argued with her and left her in a motel in Portland, Oregon on June 14, prior to his trip to Texas.

Harvey's 1964 Lincoln was found abandoned in downtown Corpus Christi, Texas; inside were bloodstained flood mats, strands of human hair and a dirty shovel.

Harvey served time in a federal prison in Kansas after pleading guilty to the bank robbery. In 1971, he went to an isolated trailer home in Marshall, Texas where two teenage girls were staying. He bound the girls and took their father's rifle, and when the boyfriend of one of the girls arrived, Harvey shot and killed the boy and then fatally shot himself.

Due the circumstances of Carol's disappearance, foul play is suspected. Her case remains unsolved.

Circumstances:
Carol Frances Norton, described as slender and nearly blind, was last seen on June 2, 1965. Her sister went to visit her at her trailer home on June 3 and found the lights on and coffee on the stove.

Her husband, Harvey Arnold Norton, was arrested and charged with the $11,700 holdup of a Sandia, TX bank on July 14, 1965. Norton told investigators that he had left his wife in a Portland, OR motel on June 14 after quarreling. He traveled to Texas after that.

Harvey Norton's vehicle was found abandoned in downtown Corpus Christi, TX. Inside, investigators found bloodstained floor mats with strands of human hair and a dirty shovel.

Norton was convicted and served jail time for the robbery. In 1971, Norton drove to an isolated trailer home in Marshall, TX. He bound the two teenage girls who lived there and stole their fathers rifle. When one of the girls boyfriend showed up and tried to save them, Norton killed the boy. After eating vanilla wafers with peanut butter and drinking a six-pack of beer, he used the same rifle to kill himself.

What a horrific story. That poor girl and all those people whose lives intersected with that monster.

Any possible match with Jane Does?
I've been researching some cases (1965-1970) of Jane Does found in California, but I think there are many options this individual left her body in other state. He may have travelled to Texas, crossing Arizona and New Mexico, with her body in the trunk... and he could bury it somewhere. I would focus on Texas, however, where the car was found. It's so creepy.
BTW: Sorry for my English, I'm from Spain.

I wonder if there's more detailed information about Norton's medical records somewhere? There is a UID found in Tiburon, CA, just 24 miles from Norton's home in El Cerrito that looks like a very possible match. However, the UID has a surgical implant near her left eye which would make it very easy to eliminate her if we can confirm that Norton never had a similar surgery.

Could this be Carol?

Height/weight/hair/age match, date make sense for when UID was found. Carnation is 2.5 hours from Portland, rural-ish now, extremely rural back then.
