It’s unfortunate that there’s no dna, or dental records for her.

I firmly believe she is the Asian Jane Doe found in December 1983. Asian Jane Doe #UP4261

Cheri & Jane Doe are both asian, 5’3, and approximately 110lbs.

LA County Medical Examiner — Case# 1983-15063https://me.lacounty.gov/unidentified-person-detail/?caseNumber=1983-15063
On 12/04/1983 children were playing near railroad tracks when they found the decomposed decedent inside an empty Southern Pacific Railroad boxcar. Two bottles of empty Oriental medicine "Koong Yick Hung Far Oil" were next to the decedent
Jewelry: One (1) white stone butterfly on elestic cord worn around neck.
Unfortunately there is no dna or dental info collected from the either of them. What a shame.

I had sent in a tip to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner that Cheri could be the Jane Doe found a few months later.
Link to the Jane Doe

Both are Asian females, approximately 5’3, around 110lbs, and in the Los Angeles Area. This was the response I received.

Good Afternoon,
ME case 1983-15063 has dental only available for comparison. Per NamUs the Missing Person does not have dental available. Therefore, a comparison can not be performed at this time. If the missing person agency can find dental then a comparison can be performed.

Regards,
Identification Section

That’s kind of a crappy response. I don’t get the impression that they are going to reach out to the Los Angeles Police Department it sounds like their answer was “there’s no dental records, when we get them we can get see if it’s a match”

Who’s to say that they even tried even tried to get dental records during the initial investigation? It will definitely be hard to go back and get them now. Any dentist she was with might be deceased now.

The Jane Doe was found with a white stone butterfly on an elastic cord worn around her neck. Maybe the detectives can ask her son if he remembers Cheri wearing jewelry that matches that description.

The Jane Doe was also found with Two bottles of empty Oriental medicine "Koong Yick Hung Far Oil" maybe Cheri was sick? Does Cheri’s family remember her using this stuff?

I’ll try and submit a tip to the Los Angeles Missing Persons Unit regardless. Her son wherever he is deserves closure.

Definitely worth a try. My only doubt is that the Doe's body was found a year after Cheri went missing, not a few months.

I wish we knew more about the circumstances surrounding Cheri's disappearance. What was she doing that day? Where exactly was she last seen? It's always poignant when you uncover old cases like this with few details. It's as if they have been completely shrouded by the mists of time.
