GUILTY CA - Clyde Foulk for child sexual abuse, Long Beach, 2010

Even though this thread sort of dissolved into a history lesson for all of us (me especially) on Gajdusek, I want to try to get back on topic concerning the director of the Napa State Hospital. I found a couple of recent links:

"A preliminary hearing was held Tuesday for a former state mental hospital director accused of molesting his foster son for at least 10 years.
"The 27-year-old victim testified through tears that he was molested repeatedly beginning in 1992 and was told that what was happening to him was normal.
He said his alleged abuser, Claude Foulk, the former executive director of Napa State Hospital, threatened him if he ever reported the abuse."

"..."I was young," he said. "I didn't know what to do. I knew it wasn't normal, but I didn't know what to do."
He said that at times, he asked Foulk to stop, but that Foulk told him it was "part of what a growing man needs to do."

Let's do the math here. This vulnerable young child was molested from the time he was nine years old until he was a young man. This monster's threats were enough to silence him. I know from personal experience, that even though this young man most likely has a support system now and court appointed advocates, he sits in that witness chair very much the nine year old he was at the time of the first molestation. The threats remain very fresh and real.
Foulk is a registered nurse and was responsible for the mental health treatment for hundreds of tortured souls. He is despicable.

Trial ordered for ex-mental hospital director
The former head of a Northern California state mental hospital was ordered Wednesday to stand trial on 35 charges that he molested his adopted son for more than a decade.
The ruling came after a preliminary hearing during which three men testified that defendant Claude Foulk sexually assaulted them when they were children.
Foulk, who appeared in court in an orange jail jumpsuit, showed no reaction to the decision by Superior Court Judge J.D. Lord that there was enough evidence to send him to trial.
Foulk was ordered held on $3.5 million bail pending his April 27 arraignment, when a trial date is expected to be set. He could face 280 years in prison if convicted of all counts.....

Boys who lie and are fire-starters are very often being abused. My heart breaks for him and I am humbled by the strength he is exhibiting. There's no telling how many little boys he will save from this man's clutches.

I fully realize that our justice system could not function without hard working defense attorneys. We need good ones so that cases hold up on appeal. But, how do they sleep at night, after they've asked a question like this?

I wonder if it's possible for those early photos to be made public. So many children in crisis or in out of home placements have no memory of names but they never forget the faces of those who abused them. I realize the man is going away for life but it would be great for even more victims to have closure.
Does anyone know what statue is in this photo of Foulk? The photo looks to be taken in his office.
