Found Deceased CA - Crystal McCarthy, 37, belongings found under a bridge, Napa, 13 Dec 2021

Perhaps her boots were the type that go over your normal shoes and since it was dry under the bridge she had them off to be more comfortable. She might even have been the type who would be more comfortable barefoot than in rain boots.

I have certainly known women for whom none of this would be our of character. If my live-in girlfriend made a habit of spontaneously drinking under bridges with homeless men I would be concerned on multiple levels but I can say with great confidence that there are types of people for whom this, apart from the accidental drowning, would be a typical Monday night. Napa seems like a likely place to find a high concentration of them too.

It's also quite possible she was pushed rather than fell but I can't imagine how that could ever be proven.

There is a picture floating around of when she went to the 7-11. The boots were street boots, not rain boots.

Yes, they look like beige color leather ankle boots, the type that have a zip up the inside.

The type that do not come off your feet accidentally. Ever.

I'm not entirely convinced these aren't her bare feet. What appears to be a heel could be a shadow and the apparent offset at her ankle could be a camera artefact, her left ankle (in lower light) appears to show her pants tightly rolled up with a lighter colored lining.

Also every pair of boots I've ever had that zipped on the side had the zipper on the inward side and I don't see a zipper. It's quite blurry of course so I'm also not saying these are definitely her bare feet. They might be boots that are the same color as her skin.

I downloaded the photo and zoomed in for a closer look. Definitely boots. On the one of the left (her right), you can see the tan upper leg part extends outside the pants on the left side of the photo. The boot on the right is actually easier to tell that it's a boot with a heel. It looks to me like the pants are straight leg and tucked into the boots. MOO
ETA: photo showing where tan part extends beyond the pants.

This is a question that could easily be answered by literally any more information being released by law enforcement, be it a description of the boots that were found or additional images from the convenience store camera.

I would also like to see exactly what it looks like under that bridge. Is there a significant homeless camp under there with furniture and rugs and stuff where someone might take their shoes off or is it just cement and gravel?

I went there while we searched for her. Under the bridge there was evidence of a fire as it smelled of smoke and there was a burn scar. I saw a lot of empty beer cans and random clothes found nearby. It is a small space and it would have been difficult to fall into the river. I was there 6 days after she went missing. It looks to be a spot to have a fire for the homeless. The river bank is littered with torn up tents and beer cans. There is a lot of plants and vines that would stop a fall into the river.

We also questioned a homeless guy about if he had seen her and he said he knew her and had not seen her and he wanted to know what our connection was to her. In fact he was very insistent on knowing how we knew her. We did not know her but friends know her and we were trying to help find her. He was the only one who appeared angered by our presence. Everyone else we encountered thanked us. It is a very small community. Most people we asked knew her. This guy's behavior was very suspicious

I wonder if any toxicology tests can still be run on her.

At least she is found and her family knows where she is.

[...]

The first upcoming memorial service is planned for Feb. 3, from 6-8 p.m. in the JaM Cellars Ballroom — the historic Napa Valley Opera House at 1030 Main St. in Napa — upstairs from Blue Note Napa, McCarthy’s former workplace.

Another memorial service is slated for Feb. 5, from 1-3 p.m., at the El Rio bar in San Francisco, located at 3158 Mission St. DR, a friend and former coworker of McCarthy, said the SF event will be a celebration of McCarthy’s lifestyle, which she said the SF city life and culture is symbolic of.

[...]

Another event, a benefit memorial show in honor of McCarthy, is being planned for Feb. 27, at the Red Museum at 212 15th St. in Sacramento.

AC, another of McCarthy's friends who's organizing the Sacramento event, said a few bands connected to McCarthy — who was highly involved in the Sacramento music scene — will be playing at the event.

And the event will include artists, AC said. One friend is painting a bunch of terracotta plant pots, she added, because McCarthy loved plants and flowers.

Investigation Continues Into Napa Woman's Death: Police | Napa Valley, CA Patch
"The case is still open as detectives are waiting on the final autopsy report," Rodriguez said Friday. "As we have previously stated, no obvious signs of trauma were found during her autopsy in December 2021. While we are still waiting on toxicology results that can take months to process, detectives are not seeking any suspects in the investigation."

The memorial events were planned in part to celebrate McCarthy’s bright, welcoming personality, according to several of her friends. Echoing the comments of many speakers at the memorial events, DW, McCarthy’s boyfriend and organizer of a Feb. 3 Napa memorial event, said McCarthy really did brighten up rooms for others.

[...]

DW said that though he personally hasn’t found much closure, the amount of support he’s found from friends of McCarthy has been “kind of overwhelming,” and that it’s been beautiful — particularly with the breakdown of social connections during the COVID-19 pandemic — to see how the people who loved her have come together.

GT, one of McCarthy’s close friends, organized a Feb.5 memorial event that took place at the El Rio Bar in San Francisco. Tumosova said she first met McCarthy about 12 years ago, while she was practicing with her Sacramento-based band FAVORS.

“She was just like playing drums with her bright orange hair, full of life and joy and dancing around,” GT said. “I was mesmerized with her and right away wanted to become best friends with her. And we did. We were inseparable since then; we called each other twins because our spirits — we felt like they were very similar.”
