I have the impression that this man committed suicide... or maybe he tested himself with someone as a bet... and lost... I don't think he was a bad guy maybe he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time...
whatever the case
rest in peace

I found this article from the Kingston Whig-Standard, dated Feb 5, 1993, one year before he disappeared, and stating:

An inmate walked away from Bath Institution [correctional facility] last night [Thursday, February 4] at about 11 pm., police report. Daniel Scott Touseant, 26, was last seen wearing red track pants and green parka. He’s described as 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 163 pounds, with long brown hair in a pony tail. Mr. Touseant has a record of break-ins.

Everything from this description matches what's given in the Doe Network, so I think it's the same guy. Only the height is different (5'8" vs. 6'1") so keep this in mind when searching the databases of the unidentified.

Given that Daniel was last seen one year later, was he on the run this whole time? This could've contributed to his disappearance.

Additionally, Toronto is just three hours away from the correctional facility in Kingston, and 4.5 hours away from Ottawa, where Daniel was supposedly heading.

Hi I'm Dan's sister and thought I'd jump in to clarify. That article is about my brother but he wasn't on the run. He spent most of his life, age 12 to 27, in group homes, detention centres, jail and prison, for non-violent crimes and often for breaches. He was known to walk away and they would just put him back. He would go in deliberately in the winter and out in the spring. He was sent to jail for four months for breach of probation because he wasn't attending his mandatory AA and NA meetings. I was the one working with his PO at the time. I also spoke to his friend in Ottawa after he was released and spoke with him just before he went missing when my parents wired him $50.00. He did however leave behind a list of locations, spanning from London to BC to Florida, with coordinates and labels saying "next location". In summary, he wasn't on the run. The London Police Department spoke with me, out of the blue, about a year ago and reopened the case. I also did DNA which had no results. I can answer any questions you may have. Please note I have two cousins with the same name and an uncle with the same name. My brother is not in Ontario so eliminate any you find here. Thanks.

Hi I'm Dan's sister. All I can say to your post is you may very well be correct. I've thrown a lot of potential answers out, including witness protection, died out in the wild, living the high life somewhere, in a US jail since our police wouldn't have access to their systems, changed names, etc ... an oddly enough it never crossed my mind that perhaps he took his own life. Or lost a bet which is possible as well! Maybe one day I will know.

Hi, I hope I didn't offend you. It was just my opinion. Sometimes people who commit suicide follow a pattern. Not always, but sometimes it happens. I sincerely hope that one day you'll have all the answers about your brother and have the peace you so deserve.
Hugs
Rest in peace, Dan

Hello there and welcome to Websleuths!

First, I'm sorry that you and your family have been missing your brother now for over 30 years and that you've had to endure this time without answers. I hope that this year is different and that we can at least come closer to the truth.

Second, thank you so much for providing some more background to your brother's routine. Since you say Daniel would deliberately enter group homes during the winter months (which makes perfect sense!), is there any record of places he may have attended during the winter of 1993–1994? Is that the list of locations you mentioned, spanning from London to BC to Florida (Eastern Ontario or USA)? Knowing the places he visited, and the order in which he visited them, could help us understand more of his thought process or plan. What "next location" was on his list? Not to sound grim, but that might be where we should start looking among any records of the unidentified.

On that note, could you clarify your brother's height? The Doe Network has it at 6'1" but the article I found states 5'8".

Third, I would encourage you to become a Verified Insider on Websleuths, if you haven't started the process already. This way, anything you post regarding your brother does not need to be supported by links to mainstream media (MSM) because it's essentially insider information.

And lastly, I also share my name with multiple family members, both living and deceased, so I completely understand the confusion that can cause!
