Looking at the picture makes me curious. Was David a professional guitarist? it looks like he's standing on a stage and there is someone wearing what appears to be a porkpie hat in the foreground, maybe this picture was taken at a club? Did he perform with a band or was he simply a lounge singer? Why didn't his co-workers or bandmates report him missing, assuming he was still employed in the early 1980s? It's a shame that we don't know anything about this young man, I'm sure he was very talented )':

This is a long-shot, but perhaps this young man who fell from a water tower in Florida in 1983 could be him? They have exact identical hair, eyes, and brows, but the height doesn’t exactly match. But there could be some inaccuracies since I learned that jumping from a water tower could.. I dunno, destroy your skull and obliterate your spine making you look shorter than you actually are? I wonder if Rico was one of those struggling musicians who traveled the country looking for work, but gave up when no one was willing to hire him.
