CA CA - Eric Campbell, 47, from Eureka, camping Patrick Creek Area, reported missing 18 Sep 2024 *animals left at camp, hood up on truck*

His Toyota pickup truck with Montana plates was found with the hood up.
I noticed this in the first post and wonder why he had Montana plates if he lives in CA. It’s not important, but I’m curious. AFAIK, he’s always lived in Northern CA. Per Facebook he’s from Crescent City and lives in Eureka. Even if he had lived in MT temporarily, I believe you’re supposed to change your license in just a few weeks if you move to another state. I assume they are sure this is his truck and not someone who broke down and he helped take them to town. Again, just curious. I hope he’s found.

A lot of people in Northern California have Oregon plates to avoid high taxes and fees with registering your vehicle. They aren’t supposed to but not much enforcement. Could be similar to having a car registered in Montana too.

I wonder why his family went to the campsite looking for him.
Probably because he abruptly stopped communicating (see above).

Bumping for Eric. He is 5’6” and has blue eyes.

The family provided a picture of Eric's Italian-made Pietta black powder revolver which has been unaccounted for and perhaps linked to his disappearance.

<modsnipped- no source> I guess there's just a lot I don't know about this- like, was he camping because he liked to camp or because he wanted to be out on his own and away from society? Was he someone who held down steady employment or did he live a peripatetic life? I suppose it's none of my business, but these are the things that always cross my mind in these cases.
