LA woman sentenced for stealing millions in 'grotesque' fraud scheme, disposing man's body in SF Bay
A SoCal woman was sentenced to 20 years in prison for a bizarre crime that involved ID theft, forgery of wills, and disposing the dismembered body of a man in the San Francisco Bay and making it look like he was still alive.
According to the Justice Department, Caroline Joanne Herrling, 44, who also went by Carrie Phenix, was sentenced to 240 months in federal prison for fraudulently obtaining ownership of real estate and money through identity theft and forged power-of-attorney forms.
