The Irish community in Southern California has been sharing urgent appeals for information about a young Irishman who has gone missing.

Gary Reilly was last seen getting on a bus from Bakersfield to LA on Tuesday night (May 5).

People have been sharing a missing poster for Gary with his details online.

Alongside a picture of Gary it reads: “Help bring Garry Reilly home.

“Last known whereabouts: May 3 2022 getting bus from Bakersfield to LA.

Age 28/Nationality Irish/green eyes/brown hair/6’2”/200 pounds."
One Irish person sharing the message on twitter wrote: “Gary Reilly was last seen getting on a bus from Bakersfield to LA California. He's Irish. Please be on the lookout and share. Thanks in advance."
Another added: “My friend Gary Reilly has been missing since Tuesday night 5/3/2022 he was getting the midnight bus from Bakersfield to Los Angeles and got ejected from the bus somewhere between Santa Clarita and Bakersfield.
“Gary is tall, travelling light carrying a backpack and has a thick Irish accent.

“Please print this poster and hang it on your business premises.

“His family are distraught and would greatly appreciate your help in finding their son/brother. "

A sad update RIP Gary
A Meath man who had been missing in the United States for more than a week has been found dead in Los Angeles, it has been confirmed.

Gary Reilly (28), from Ballinlough, between Kells and Oldcastle, was last seen on a midnight bus on May 5 travelling from Bakersfield to LA in California, a journey of two hours’ length.

Friends were aware he made it to Santa Clarita on the outskirts of LA before getting off the bus but he had not been seen or heard from since.

They started a social media campaign to urge people to come forward with any information on sightings, and said it was out of character for him to be out of contact for so long.

It is understood that Mr Reilly’s body was identified in LA earlier this week and word had been filtering back to Co Meath since then.

An LA coroner report states that Mr Reilly died on May 5. The circumstances of his death are as yet unknown.

Mr Reilly was 6ft 2in tall and travelling light, carrying a backpack, his friends said.

Irish friends have been posting messages of sympathy for his family on social media on learning of his death.

I wonder what happened. I rode the Megabus a lot as a college student and always found it clean and safe. However, public transport here in the states is a lot different from what one might find in Europe, especially a midnight bus. Does anyone know if there is a non-Greyhound option for bus travel Bakersfield to LA? Also wondering if the early MSM reports about him being "ejected from" (kicked off, I assume) the bus are correct.
