CA - Girl, 14, fatally shot by LAPD firing at assault suspect in store, Dec 2021

I feel terrible about that poor little girl. It's awful.
If you listen to the 911 call, it sounds like a gun shot so I'm thinking they thought he was armed. The guy was a complete lunatic and I'm glad he can no longer hurt anyone else.

Thanks, @Gardenista -- I thought I heard loud noises, too.
It appeared to me that he was slamming that lock (metal?) against everything that was close and making growling/grunting (?) noises. What is LE supposed to do? If they only heard what he was doing and weren't able to see that he was not carrying a firearm?
I wasn't there, so I may be incorrectly visualizing what was occurring...
What a horrible tragedy. That sweet, dear young girl. Just gone.

That bike lock could still permanently disfigure or kill. That poor woman was bleeding everywhere. I couldn't find any information on what happened to her. This just seems like a tragic accident.

I think this goes back to what was said above. What did 911 dispatch tell the LE that was on scene, because I believe from the article I posted above, the person in the store that called 911 said he had a bike lock.

There is a 911 call where they are told the guy had a gun and there were shots fired. I've not seen it on MSM though, so I can't post a link.

Los Angeles Police Department officers urged a colleague who shot and killed a suspect and a teen bystander inside a Burlington Coat Factory to "slow down" multiple times, body-camera footage released by the department on Monday showed. <snip>
The department confirmed to USA Today that the officer who shot and killed Daniel Elena-Lopez, 24, and Valentina Orellana-Peralta, 14, was on administrative leave. <snip>
I have a real problem with a rifle being fired in a busy store when the police weren't certain the store had been evacuated. Seems to me that, with multiple officers there, a less dangerous method of taking the suspect down should have been employed- like a taser. JMO.

That poor mother's scream in the background......

ETA: I'm not a police officer, but I definitely have my opinion that maybe they didn't need to shoot... MOO, JMHO.

I think given the fact the initial formation they had going in (before Jones showed up) was lead by an officer with non lethal ammo (don't know if it was bean bag or what) that they were hoping to end it peacefully. Jones seems to have made the single decision to change that. Imo
