March 2022
''Twenty-four years ago today, March 24, Fenton native Jill Ann Weatherwax was murdered. She was 27 years old. Her body was found in a Fresno, California field. She had been stabbed to death.
Despite offers of rewards and Weatherwax being the subject of various television shows including “Inside Editon” and “America’s Most Wanted” and numerous magazine and newspaper articles, those responsible for her death have not surfaced.
The small town girl was a cheerleader and member of the track team at Fenton High School, from which she graduated in 1988. She became a cosmetologist, won a series of Michigan beauty queen crowns and worked as a model. She also became a singer and dancer.''

''During a fashion show in Chicago, Weatherwax got her chance to go to Hollywood and pursue a singing career. There she led a jet-setting life, meeting and partying with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. She danced with actor Patrick Swayze, partied with Armand Assante, sang with Van Morrison and dined with Scott Baio. She once sang backup for Whitney Houston.
She used a stage name of Eve and later was known as Jill Weathers. In an interview with the Tri-County Times on May 1, 1994, she likened her voice to a mix between Houston and Janis Joplin.
Weatherwax recorded several CDs and sang for five years in clubs belonging to Ciro Orsini, a London restauranteur, throughout Europe and the Middle East. She developed a personal relationship with Orsini, who also became her manager.''

''She was last seen talking with three Hispanic men with a Ford Tempo. He substantiated the autopsy report, saying there were no contaminants in her body.
Murrietta placed her death at approximately midnight on March 24. She was found about 12 hours later, just before noon, on March 25, he said.''

''Weatherwax was murdered on March 24, 1998 in Fresno, Ca. Police found her body the next day, dumped in an empty lot next to an animal shelter, about 200 miles away from Oxnard, where she had been living. According to previous news reports, Weatherwax was last seen getting into a green or grey Ford Tempo with three unidentified Hispanic men near the Villa Hotel on Parkway Drive the night of her murder.''

''Television show E! True Hollywood Stories aired a segment on Weatherwax’s life and murder in October 1999. It was called, “The Murder of Miss Hollywood.” Despite that show, offers of rewards and having her murder aired on Inside Edition and America’s Most Wanted and numerous magazines and newspapers, police have yet to identify those responsible.
Weatherwax’s unsolved murder was later included as one of the chapters in a book by T. Kevlin, called, “Headless Man in Topless Bar.” In that book, Kevlin wrote that Weatherwax’s body was found in an area of Fresno that was frequented by prostitutes. It has never been confirmed, however, that she was involved with prostitution.''

''News accounts out of California said the young starlet led a jet-setting life, moving to London where she cut two albums and later moved back to California where she was working on another album. California detectives told news stations early on that they suspected she had become a stripper and had been arrested in Ventura County on drug-related crimes, but her family was never convinced of this.''

''Lowe said Weatherwax never bragged about hanging out with famous stars like Patrick Swayze or that for five years she had been dating Ciro Orsini, a well-known actor and restaurant owner. Lowe said, “She was a very sweet girl,” adding that her murder was so brutal that she had a closed-casket funeral. “Nobody deserves to be murdered.”

''DNA testing was unheard of when Weatherwax was murdered. Ledbetter said as DNA technology advances, they are hopeful that evidence collected from the scene will lead to the identity of a suspect. The department stays in contact with Weatherwax-Shilts and Ledbetter understands how difficult this has been on her.''
