Apparently he was seen the next day in Northern California:

Baker was last seen Thursday in Piercy in Mendocino County about 200 miles north of San Francisco, the CHP said in a Silver Alert issued Friday for Los Angeles County and four Northern California counties— Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino and Sonoma.

That is quite a drive for 1 day, but he could have driven about 4 hours on Wednesday (Aug 7th) and 4 hours on Thursday (Aug 8th). I wonder if he knows anyone in that area. If he was just driving, without a particular place to drive to, he could be quite far away by now as 3 days have passed since he was last seen in Northern California.

ETA: map & link! Driving time is approximate, because no exact locations were given. Mendocino is a large county!

Oh great, another person missing and could have possibly been in Humboldt County during this time.

I’m a friend of John Bakers daughter and wanted to tell all that as of today, Aug 17, John is still missing. It’s been 10 days. To answer a few queries I read above, John loves to drive and see new areas. He hadnt been driving for a period of time and the Dr. gave him the “all clear” to jump back behind the wheel and drive.

So John took off to explore the redwoods many hours north of where he lived in Lancaster. Sadly he hasn’t used his credit since last Thur. near Redding. No word or sighting of his car or John since.

Redding is about 200 miles away from Piercy, where he was last seen on the same day (the day after he disappeared).

For reference, the LACSO FB post about John, with another possible sighting in the comments:

John's wife wrote a letter to a local news source. She last spoke to him on August 8 when he told her that he would be coming home "when he got out of the trees and found the freeway".

From the letter:

His last card transaction was in Piercy at the Cooks Valley Union Gas Station, and there were 2 call-ins for possible sightings in Arcata and north of Arcata on Monday 8/12.

This tugs at my heart :( I so want John to be found. It does sound like he was a happy man, doing what he enjoyed, regardless of his Alzheimer's. God bless him and his family.
