Sheriff's office asking public for help finding missing Lompoc man | NewsChannel 3-12

50-year-old John Mario Fuegos of Lompoc was last seen Monday, May 24 leaving his home on his motorcycle.

He was originally headed toward Arizona.
On Tuesday, May 25 around 3 am, he texted his loved ones that he was in Fillmore and was planning on heading back home.

He was last seen riding his black 2003 Suzuki motorcycle with California license plate 22P6615. He was wearing "motorcycle type clothing," according to the sheriff's office.

Sheriff’s Detectives Seek Public’s Help in Locating Missing Lompoc Man

He reportedly left his residence in Lompoc around 11 p.m. on May 24 with the intended destination of Arizona.

But, at about 3 a.m. on May 25, Fuegos texted his family and said that he was in Fillmore, and would be heading back home, Zick said, adding that his last communication to his family was through a text sent at 6 a.m. that same day.

Fuegos’ wife contacted the Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday to request that deputies check the highways for any sign of Fuegos or his motorcycle.

Deputies drove along Highway 101 and Highway 1, while a California Highway Patrol helicopter searched the area from the air, but Fuegos was not located.

Based on cell phone records, deputies and the CHP helicopter searched the Toro Canyon Road area, San Ysidro Road, Highway 192 and Highway 101 on Wednesday, again with no luck locating Fuegos.

His cell phone records show that he possibly spent multiple hours at a Jack-in-the-Box restaurant on Citrus Drive in Ventura during the early morning hours of May 25, but detectives were unable to locate him on any of the surrounding video surveillance.

Officials update motorcycle description for Lompoc man reported missing

UPDATE:
Santa Barbara County sheriff's detectives on Friday updated the description of the motorcycle driven by a Lompoc man reported missing on his way home from Fillmore last week.

John Mario Fuegos, 50, reportedly left on a black 2008 Yamaha R1 motorcycle from his Lompoc residence with a license plate number of 23W0957.

California Highway Patrol officers were investigating a traffic collision along the northbound lanes of the highway just north of the Gaviota Tunnel about 5 a.m. when they discovered the man’s body and motorcycle in the bushes.

A records check revealed the motorcycle was registered to John Mario Fuegos, 50, and a subsequent investigation confirmed that was the identity of the deceased, Zick said.

Deputies and CHP officers searched highways 1, 101 and 192 as well as Toro Canyon and San Ysidro roads for two days without success, Zick said.

California Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal motorcycle crash.
