Family seeking missing relative in Arvin

A local family is asking for helping finding a family member who has gone missing.
Jose Joel Salazar, 22, was last seen by his grandmother on Wednesday at about 12:20 a.m.

Around 5:30 p.m., APD officers received a call regarding the location of Salazar's vehicle.



When officers arrived at the location, which was 2 1/2 miles east of Arvin, they confirmed the vehicle belonged to Salazar.

Officers said a dead Hispanic man was found in the vehicle.

No confirmation whether the dead body was Salazar.

The coroner has yet to confirm the identity of a body found Friday in the truck of a missing Arvin man.

Police are investigating the death as a homicide.

Jose Salazar, who went missing last week, was found in his truck in Arvin, just north of E. Bear Mountain Boulevard last weekend.

The Coroner's office says the cause of death was a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was homicide.

His mother said that Salazar left in his truck on his way to meet some friends on Dec. 4, then was missing.

The coroner says the cause of death was a gunshot wound and the manner was homicide.

Arvin police served two search warrants to two separate homes in Arvin in connection to Salazar's death.

Officers found 27-year-old Javier Lopez in possession of an AR 15 rifle. He was taken into custody for accessory in connection to Salazar's death, a felon in possession of a firearm and participating in a street gang.

Police also arrested 19-year-old Ana Maria Banos, and 24-year-old Jorge Vargas Sosa for accessory.

Sosa is facing an additional charge of participating in a street gang. Arvin police say there are additional suspects under investigation.
