San Bernardino, California, U.S.
A partner of Frank Baumgarteker [vanished November 1929]; by profession a bottling company owner on September 10, 1930 he had laughinghly dared to "race" his wife home while each of them was in their own car; she arrived 10 minuites after he did to find the car in their driveway; keys in it and doors open. There is speculation he was taken "for a ride" because liquor operators thought he had tipped off the police to an illegal liquor still; likewise it was thought he had a grudge against them for a large sugar bill.
