LASD Seeking Public's Help Locating Missing Malibu Woman

FEB 13, 2020
Updated: Search efforts for missing Malibu woman have thus far included helicopters, canines
  • She was last seen on foot.
  • A helicopter and K-9's were used in the search on Feb. 10 and 11.
  • “The searches emanated from the residence where she was living and then into the surrounding neighborhoods, as well as the dense brush and over the side areas nearby," Katz said, of the Feb. 10 and 11 efforts. "All homes in the area were checked, and residents were contacted by door knocks.”
  • On Saturday, Feb. 15, 50 individuals searched the hillside near the area where JS last was seen. Dogs as well as unmanned aerial vehicles were utilized.
  • Sgt. Michael Rodriguez said the search area extended out a couple miles from JS's home, which is surrounded by hills and steep canyons.
  • Police have not received any concrete evidence of her being seen elsewhere.
  • "We have no reason to believe at this point that [there is any] foul play, but we're keeping all our investigative options open," Rodriguez said. "We're not ruling anything out."

Search Continues for Missing Malibu Woman With Bipolar Disorder

The video in this article has been updated to include an interview with Julia's mother and one of Julia's friends. It also includes some search video and the construction of her new home.

Biggest takeaways:
  • Her mother says Julia saw her psychiatrist a week ago and she was in good spirits; there was nothing to indicate that her mood had changed.
  • Friends say Julia had been excited about building a new home in the spot where her old house had burned just a block from her parents' house and that she showed no signs of trouble in her life.
  • Detectives have found no signs of foul play at the home.

Oh no! So the body was found at her parents' place I'm guessing? Because her own house was not re-built yet?

I heard her body was found in a crawl space and it appears she had been there since she disappeared, on the news tonight. RIP.

Maybe I don’t read enough, but I’ve never heard of someone committing suicide and ending up in crawl space...o_O

Odd, huh? Regardless, while LE says they don't suspect foul play, the coroner will determine COD and MOD. This could well be one of those cases where we never find out though. MOO

Missing Woman Found Dead Beneath Her Malibu Area Home; No Foul Play Suspected

That area hadn't been checked despite three searches of the property in the past 11 days, possibly because a piece of plywood had been placed over the entrance, sheriff's Lt. Barry Hall said.

“It appears to us she’s been there since the day she was reported missing,” Hall told reporters Wednesday evening.

An autopsy will have to be performed before authorities can determine an official cause of death.

They must have used search/cadaver dogs. Not one hit on that poor woman and she had been missing since Feb. 8. A piece of plywood would not have covered up her scent. This is truly perplexing and so sad.

Sylvia Plath writes about that in her book The Bell Jar.

RIP beautiful Julia.
