CA - Kevin Powell, 38, murdered, Casa de Oro/Mt Helix, 11 Aug 2020

The link below is from one of the first news reports- Other news reports questioned why two Sargents from Chula Vista- a jurisdiction 10 miles away- went to conduct a welfare check at Kevin’s home at 4441 Carmen Drive, La Mesa. Their visit to the property is being explained basically as a courtesy call since he was a City employee.
Other new articles state that Carmen Drive was closed through the night while a search was conducted. It seems it took hours and hours after finding Kevin's body at 1:30 pm to get a Search Warrant.
Most of the homes in that neighborhood are at some distance from each other, with many set in from the narrow winding road.
There have been no updates since the initial discovery and opening of investigation. Also to compound the shock, there is deafening silence from and regarding the existence of Kevin’s husband, 44, who has silently vanished.
If anyone has any information or tips, San Diego Sheriff’s Department has asked that anyone with information contact them directly or call San Diego County Crime Stoppers. Contact details included in the news and media release below.
Death Investigation Underway in Casa de Oro

did you know him?
Hi-
Yes, I did. And his alleged, suspected murderer, Daniel Scott Jordan. That’s why I posted it here, in case someone might have information, especially when his husband Scott was so silent, social media shut down, cell off, and disappeared in his Tesla. Nothing made sense. Kevin killed, cat and puppy left in home, Scott missing.

Kevin was quiet the wonderful person. I just can’t understand what would make Scott do this to him. And a first degree murder charge no less—premeditation. Absolutely heartbroken for everyone. Kevin was one in a million!

Yes. Kevin was an extraordinary human being with an uncommon joyful zest for life. He so enjoyed simple pleasures and was compassionate, passionate, loving and giving of himself. a person of great integrity. He was fair and tolerant, immensely loyal and sincere. A valued employee and co worker to many, an irreplaceable treasure to his friends. And a great Congo line dancer!
We are heartbroken that he experienced such a terrible betrayal of commitment and trust, and feel deeply for his family’s sorrow and profound loss.

It would be incredibly valuable to have some insight on this terrible crime from folks who actually knew Kevin and his husband, so I do hope the two of you will stick around Websleuths!

I too knew Kevin (and Scott) from when they lived in Vacaville. I can’t believe Kevin was stolen from everyone and I am unable to wrap my brain around what happened leading up to this. I’m sorry for his family and close friends. Have been a depressed mess since hearing the news. Imagine the same is happening to many of those who knew him.

I do sincerely empathize with you, Sufflerk, and am truly sorry for your loss. You are not alone.Alongside his grieving family, many friends and associates in all walks of life were left heart-broken and reeling.
It must be hard for you to process having known them both since their early Vacaville days. You were still in touch, I imagine.
Like you, I felt that he was stolen. The cowardly attack that stole Kevin’s precious life in his own home is incomprehensible and absolutely unjustifiable.

Hugs. Kevin was my ex-boyfriend and while we had moved on from that and remained friends, I feel like this took a chunk of my heart. He still had so much to do in his life. I was happy he had gotten married and Scott seemed to be his perfect match! I know Scott’s extradition hearing is 16 September and will be following the case as much as possible.
