This man was found in a hillside area behind a residence in East Los Angeles. The namus description says 'apparent body dump' so we may assume he died in a different location and was dumped here.
He likely died recently but was rendered unrecognisable due to 'traumatic injuries'.
He was either hispanic, asian or Hawaiian. He was 5'2 and 105 pounds, and had dark hair and brown eyes. He had a tattoo on his upper right arm of a red rose (pic on his namus page)
He wore a blue T-shirt and jeans, and a brown shoe (he was only found wearing one shoe)

From his Doe Network page:

Distinguishing Marks/Features: Tattoo on his upper right arm of an open red rose with an unopened red rosebud above the opened rose, with green leaves. Birthmark the size of a dime on the back of his left thigh. A possible birthmark (1 1/2-inch) on his lower left back. Scratches on his back possibly of the Roman numerals "XVIII."

Dentals: Available.
Fingerprints: Available.
DNA: Pending

Clothing: Turquoise blue corduroy pants, blue canvas belt with brass buckle, medium blue pullover shirt with horizontal white stripes, white athletic socks with red and blue stripes and one brown leather loafer shoe.

Circumstances of Discovery
The decedent's body was located on a hillside behind a residence at approximately 9:30 AM on the dead end of Herbert Street in East Los Angeles. It appeared his body had been dumped at the scene. He suffered extensive injuries to his head.

'Scratches on his back possibly of the Roman numerals 'XVIII'

???

So this wasn't a tattoo by the way he put it, and I doubt he scratched it into his own back (that would be hard) Is the killer some kind of weird-🤬🤬🤬 Zodiac wannabe? Do you think they could tell how long the scratches were there?

Unless I see pictures of these scratches that could "possibly" Roman numerals I'm going to assume they're just scratches. To me, the more notable thing is his height and weight. 5'2" and 109 pounds is child or petite woman size. Sometimes when I go to Hispanic grocery stores and try to navigate their aisles I'm amazed at how small a lot of mesoamerican men are but I never see any that would be just 109 pounds. I guess it's a normal BMI but there isn't a single male illustration of it on height-weight-chart.com, which I often use to try to get an idea of what people from these threads might actually look like.

XVIII are the Roman Numerals for the 18th Street gang in L.A., CA.

Detailed information can be found on Wiki. My bet is this was gang related or affiliated.

Yeah, if they are actually Roman numerals, not scratches from the body being dragged, I'd be curious to know if they were on their way to healing, shortly before death, or after death (no vital response).

If he was deliberately marked this way, whether by a lone killer or a gang, that's really important information that could lead to identity if not of the victim, then of the perpetrator. @Caring1, are there other cases (solved or unsolved) that you know of of the 18th Street gang marking victims this way? Anyone know of a serial (identified or unidentified) in LA numbering victims with Roman numerals?

Just for reference and not affiliated with the UID in this thread.

MP from 2006 with XVIII tattoo on back of neck and noted to be affiliated with the gang mentioned above.
