The boy is suspected of killing his father, Lue Yang, and mother, Se Vang, both 37, at the family's rural home near the Fresno County community of Miramonte on Wednesday, county Sheriff John Zanoni said at a news conference.

He was being held at juvenile hall, the sheriff said. His name wasn't released because he is a minor.

The boy's sister underwent emergency surgery for critical injuries but was expected to recover, while his 7-year-old brother wasn't attacked and was in the care of relatives, Zanoni said.

"(Reporting party) screaming on the line, saying someone broke into his house with a gun. Can hear children crying. (Reporting party) frantic. Not answering questions," said the dispatcher.

The boy even said the suspect sped away in a silver pickup truck.

But when sheriff's deputies arrived, they said the boy's story didn't add up.

"Evidence ultimately showed that he fabricated the story of a break-in and was responsible for using multiple weapons to attack his mom, his dad, and his sister," Zanoni explained.

Zanoni said that after an initial investigation, police began to find “inconsistencies” with what the 14-year-old had claimed and what had happened due to what was found at the crime scene and interviews with witnesses.

“Evidence showed that he had fabricated the story of a break-in and was responsible for using multiple weapons to attack his mom, dad and sister,” Zanoni said.

Zanoni said another 7-year-old boy was also at the home at the time, but was not injured. According to police, he is a sibling of the 14-year-old and 11-year-old, and was placed in the care of family members.

“The tragedy of the situation is of such a high magnitude because two children have lost their mother and father due to the actions by their other sibling,” Zanoni noted. “Those children will grow up without a mother and a father because of this incident.”

He noted that police have not yet been able to figure out the motive behind the attacks and that the investigation is ongoing. Zanoni said the investigation will include looking at the boy’s school history and family members to see if the boy “has a history of mental illness” or “violence.”

“Because it is out of the ordinary. It is not something that’s normal for someone to act out this aggressively and this violent in this manner only one time or this being the first incident,” Zanoni added

"The boy allegedly also tried to kill his 11-year-old sister but she is expected to recover from her injuries. Another brother, aged 7, was home but not injured."
