"ONTARIO, Calif. (AP) — Twenty-five years after a transvestite prostitute was found shot to death in Ontario, detectives say they have matched scientific evidence recovered from the crime scene to an Orange County man awaiting trial in another killing.

Police say DNA evidence links 49-year-old Richard Reil to the March 22, 1990, slaying of Lyle William Foster."

"Unlike other cases where family members push homicide detectives for years to solve cases, none did on Foster’s behalf. Detectives have not located any family members to tell them about Reil.

In 1990, no family members showed up to claim Foster’s body and friends knew little about his past, other than he spoke and read Spanish, and possibly had an 8-year-old daughter named Rebecca.

County officials buried him in San Bernardino County Cemetery.

But “Kathy” had friends who took her death hard.

“She was a person, and a fine person regardless of what she is,” friend and roommate Bill said shortly after her death. “We all have our peculiarities, but she was still a person and she deserved better.”

A native of Avenal, a community near Visalia, Kathy’s parents were believed to be dead. She had two brothers and a half-sister, but they had not seen one another in years."

Tragic. Prayers for Kathy. How sad to be murdered and have no family that misses you. The suspect really gives me the creeps. I hope they throw the book at him!

Nearly 26 years after a transgender prostitute was discovered dead in an Ontario field, an Orange County man pleaded guilty Friday to killing him and was sent to prison, likely for the rest of his life.

Richard Reil, 51, who was linked by DNA evidence to the 1990 shooting of Lyle William Foster, also pleaded guilty to killing a 35-year-old man in Santa Ana in 2009, Orange County Senior Deputy District Attorney Larry Yellin said.

In a deal with prosecutors, Reil was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder and sentenced to 30 years to life in prison. Had he gone to trial, he could have faced life in prison without the chance of parole. Yellin called the sentence the equivalent of a life term for someone Reil’s age.

I'm sad that "Kathy's" life ended tragically. I'm glad there is justice for him. I just found out about this yesterday day. My heart breaks that he was alone and thrown out like trash.
