Family seeks answers after Santa Clara man found dead near Levi's Stadium

A family is searching for answers after a Santa Clara man who vanished on Super Bowl Sunday was found dead six days later near Levi’s Stadium.

Stroud drove from Oregon to help search for her brother. The family filed a missing persons report, posted flyers, searched trails, and turned to social media to spread the word.

Days later, Stroud said she received a message from a stranger on Facebook containing police scanner audio indicating a body had been found near Levi’s Stadium.

“I wasn’t aware that there had even been a body to be recovered behind Levi’s Stadium until some random lady on Facebook sent me a link,” Stroud said.

She contacted the medical examiner’s office and identified her brother by a large tattoo of his last name across his back. Authorities later confirmed Simpkins’ body was found in San Tomas Aquino Creek

Police said investigators learned that Simpkins had last been seen on Feb. 8, around 9:30 p.m., near Pruneridge Avenue and Lawrence Expressway. Detectives, police say, believe he walked away from the area and was last near Homestead Road and Los Olivos Drive at 1 a.m., Feb. 9.

Investigators are asking residents in the area of Homestead Road and Los Olivos Drive to check their surveillance cameras around 1 a.m. to see if they captured someone matching the description or clothing worn by Simpkins.

Santa Clara police ask for help investigating after body found in San Tomas Aquino Creek

The investigation began on Feb. 14 when police found a body face down in San Tomas Aquino Creek, south of Tasman Drive, after being called to the area. Police said the man had last been seen on the night of Feb. 8, near Pruneridge Avenue and Lawrence Expressway.
