Police Search for Man Accused of Murdering 'Sandlot' Actor's Mom: 'There Is a Nationwide Manhunt Underway'

The Del Norte County Sheriff's Office announced in a post on Facebook that Deanna Esmaeel, York's mother, was found dead in her home on Thursday morning.

While the department advised that they cannot release further details because it is an ongoing homicide investigation, they shared that Esmaeel's boyfriend, Daniel James Walter, also known as Edward Patrick Davies, 54, is a suspect in the case.

Police in Brookings, Oregon arrested Daniel James Walter, the suspect in the murder of Del Norte County Sheriff Deputy Deanna Esmaeel near a homeless encampment along the Chetco River Friday night. Esmaeel worked as a courthouse bailiff and was also the mother of actor and fitness influencer, Marty York.


Authorities had been on the hunt for Daniel James Walter, also known as Edward Patrick Davies, following the discovery of Deputy Esmaeel’s lifeless body in her home on North Bank Road in Crescent City on October 12, 2023.


Del Norte County Sheriff Garrett Scott confirmed the arrest to the LA Times, revealing Walter would be extradited back to California, where murder charges are expected to be filed next week.

The mother of Marty York — an actor best known for his role in the beloved 1990s baseball movie “The Sandlot” — was found dead in her Northern California home Thursday morning and a suspect has been arrested in Oregon, authorities said.

Officials found the body of Deanna Esmaeel, a Del Norte County sheriff’s deputy, inside her home on North Bank Road in Crescent City on Thursday morning, according to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s department.

Her boyfriend, 54-year-old Daniel James Walter, was announced as a suspect in the attack a short time later and arrested just over the California-Oregon border in Brookings on Friday night, authorities said.
