Burnt car found in case of missing Mecca mother; investigators say 'no foul play' involved

A 40-year-old mother from Mecca was reported missing Monday morning, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

A family member reported Maria Guadalupe Alvarez was missing, Deputy Armando Munoz said. Alvarez's son told a local news station that she was last seen between 5:45 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Officials with the Bureau of Land Management recovered the burnt wreck of a car registered in Alvarez's name earlier Monday. There were no human remains found inside the vehicle, Munoz said.

"We don't believe that there was any foul play," Munoz said. "Right now we're just talking to family members and trying to locate her."
