According to the younger Mooney, Maria Mooney has many health issues, including dementia. She speaks English and Spanish, but does not speak very clearly due to her condition, he daughter said.

In addition, Maria Mooney “doesn’t walk very well,” Martha Mooney said. “She’s fragile and not in good health. I’m afraid something bad has happened to her.”

I am very worried about this lady, and I'm not expecting a good outcome. I am very familiar with the neighborhood, the Montclair district, where she was last seen. It is a beautiful area in the Oakland hills, and most of the homes sell for upwards of $2,000,000. Some of these homes have large lots, and it seems to me that she must have wandered into one of these properties. I don't think she would be able to walk very far. The Montclair Village shopping district is within walking distance of where she was last seen, but I can't imagine a frail, 80-pound woman with health issues, being able to walk very far uphill. If she did walk as far as the shopping district, I'm sure she would have been easily spotted there. There is a city park by the shopping district, but it is out in the open, no place to hide there. The district is surrounded by wilderness areas, but it would be necessary to walk up steep hills to get to them. It just seems that, logically, she would have to be on a private property. The longer she is missing, the scarier it becomes. I'm not expecting a good outcome, but I hope I'm wrong and she is found safe.

What a great surprise to see that Maria has been located! I hope that she is well. I have checked for updates on her every day since she has been missing, and there has been nothing in the media for more than two weeks. Sure would like to know where she was found.

Unfortunately, Maria wasn't located safe. According to articles in the East Bay Times and The Mercury News, she was found dead. I have used my quota of free articles in these two publications, so I wasn't able to read the full articles, but this is the part that was visible.

Oakland woman, missing for weeks, found dead, police say

"More than two weeks after she went missing, authorities said an Oakland woman with dementia was located, but had died. Maria Mooney, 79, had been........"

Oakland woman missing for weeks located, police say

As the article flashed on the screen before disappearing, I was able to read that police said she was found deceased on March 2, and they don't believe it is homicide.

I can't imagine why the official police announcement said only that she is no longer a missing person. It makes no sense to me why they didn't provide more details, and didn't announce that she is deceased.
