It reminds me of another case I read about on here. It was a little girl and her mom, I think they might have been from Ukraine, and they lived with stepdad. The school resource officer showed up at the door because they hadn't seen her in such a long time, and it turned out mom had taken her up into the mountains or something and she was see in that area but then Mom came back without her. I don't remember her name and I don't think she was ever found.

After you mentioned I recalled I'd heard of that before as well.
It certainly explains a possible reason why a minor child's name is listed on a public people finder site.

In any case, I hope the family in Nebraska is more open to assisting LE in locating this child than her mother is. Assuming they know anything at all.

I haven’t seen anything from MSM that states she has family in Nebraska? Do you know that for sure? I think we need to be careful about stating this as fact until it’s known for sure.

The other think I thought about. It’s been stated Ashlee has mental health issues. If she is paranoid/delusional, she could be thinking Melodee is in danger. Perhaps that the family, school, LE, or the man in the moon, is trying to take her away and do her harm. So she is protecting her location.

The scenerio above is better than what I was initially thinking, hope Melodee is safe somewhere and this is just a Mom in crisis who needs mental health intervention.

Considering she's only 9 years old, I thought at first it was a mistake. But then looking at this person's possible relatives, that name comes up in the first spot. So, it's not a mistake. Someone related to LM used Melodee's name for something that allowed her to end up on a site like this.

It's been decades but I recall hearing about parents using their kid's name & other fraudulent info to apply for credit cards. NOT that I'm saying this is what happened here, but it was the first thing to come to mind.

If you click on LM's name, her first listed relative JM has an address in Nebraska.

LE is far more sophisticated than us and Ashlee’s Mom lives locally in Santa Maria. Wouldn’t they have spoke to her and learned there is family living there? Making the newest statement but not including that detail regarding a potential reason for traveling to Nebraska? Maybe it’s to flush someone out? Doesn’t make sense to me though. If her family has Melodee it’s a quick thing to check out, LM would give the contact information to make that happen.

The credit card thing is interesting though, because she’s being sued right now in Santa Barbara county court for unpaid cc debt. There was a prior case same company, a year earlier I think. But there was a request to dismiss and it was closed. Then reopened and is current. Think I remember that correctly.

There are so many highway cameras now. And in California, records if you use toll roads, bridges, the license plates are documented. You have a record of payment, or a fine if you didn't pay.

Records of using credit cards, pictures at gas stations. Not to mention digital records with cellphone use.

It is much more difficult to not leave a trail.

Could be they just discovered this trip. Hopefully they'll get a detailed CAST report from that rental and they'll know every mile, every turn, every stop.

At this point in the investigation, Ashlee Buzzard remains uncooperative and has not provided detectives with any information about Melodee’s current location or condition. The primary goal of this investigation is to verify the location and welfare of Melodee Buzzard and ensure that she is safe.

Sheriff’s detectives continue to pursue all available leads. This public outreach effort is one part of those ongoing efforts to develop information that could assist investigators. Detectives are aware of the strong community interest in Melodee’s case and are asking the public not to attempt to conduct their own searches or investigations. While well-intentioned, these efforts could unintentionally interfere with investigative work already in progress. Detectives have already conducted a thorough search of the family’s residence and continue to follow verified leads in a coordinated manner.

it's slightly encouraging that the last-seen date keeps getting closer to now. october 7th was only 8 days before law enforcement and the media starting ringing the alarm bells about ashlee. if, hypothetically, there was some plan in the works that involved hurting her or worse, and she happened to still be alive on the 15th, one might hope the people involved got cold feet and decided not to add more serious charges to the ones they were already facing.

So now that we know Melodee was seen with Ashlee on 10/7 - we also know through the school district that Ashlee likely started receiving calls and emails, then letters as early as September. The home visit from the district truancy officer beginning of October. Then we have the well check vist to the home by SB County Sheriff’s Department last week.

I’m guessing Ashlee knew what was coming. Hence the car rental and road trip to Nebraska somewhere around October 7th.

She isn’t cooperating, but she hasn’t tried to flee either. A neighbor is posting updates proving she’s still at the home.

After all the new info we learned today, I think she has hidden her out of state, for a reason related to her current mental health status, JMO.

also... if it's true ashlee has family in nebraska, and if LE has some reason to suspect they visited nebraska independent of the (putative?) fact that she has family there, then it seems likely the reason she went there was to go to family. i mean why else do you make a random trip to nebraska? (no offense, cornhuskers)

but why go to them? if this were about disposing of a body, that's an awfully long way to go and risky as hell. if this were a plan that involved hurting her daughter or worse on the premise that it would be easier to clean up evidence and dispose of the body on relatives' property "where no one would think to look", again, a long way to go. and plenty of time to come to her senses. ... and in either case, i have trouble picturing that conversation with the relative(s) or imagining them going along with it.

i find it easier to picture the conversation being like "can she stay with you for a little while? ...or more?"

though maybe i'm projecting too much normal onto a possibly pathological mind? i hope i'm not just high on hopium.
