Her aunt was on News Nation with Ashley Banfield tonight.

Ashlee brought her daughter over to her mother-in- law's home at one point when the daughter was young. They weren't there very long and Ashlee said:
"...I can't do this..." Then they left soon after.

She seemed super stressed just being there. 😔

We recently rented a car ( a chevy). The route we needed to take back to the airport didn't have an easily accessible gas station off the highway near the airport. When we returned the vehicle, the car rental place took off a charge for our tank not being completely full because a tracker showed that we had stopped at a gas station & filled up the tank minutes beforehand. They knew the exact level of fuel in the car, and when and where we stopped.

Denes said the family once planned to adopt Melodee and that she had already begun paperwork when Ashlee withdrew the girl from her Santa Maria school and reportedly left the state.
“I couldn’t just hire a detective to follow her,” she said. Denes said when she went to Ashlee’s mother’s house seeking answers, she was told, “Don’t come here again.” Soon afterward, Ashlee filed a restraining order preventing further contact.

I’m sure LE has all that information. But let’s say Ashlee met someone in a rural location with no cameras and they took Melodee.

Knowing a location is not going to help find Melodee. That’s why tips from witnesses who may have seen the car, Melodee, or Ashlee are going to be key in hopefully locating her.

Melodee could literally be anywhere.

Are they sure that's Melodee in that pic? If so, looks to have lost weight compared to the other pic. I know it just may be hard to tell w/the hoodie, etc.
I think she was four or five, now nine in the latest photo. She’s taller and lost the baby look she had when younger.

Statement from maternal side of family.

Earlier this week, a separate statement was shared by Ashlee's aunts:

“On behalf of the maternal family of Ashlee and Melodee Buzzard, we want to express our deep concern regarding the recent news of her disappearance. Our primary focus is on finding Melodee and ensuring her safety.

We ask the public and media to remember that this urgent situation is about finding Melodee, not criticizing her Mothers mental health. While Ashlee’s experiences may be a factor, we respectfully request that her privacy be protected and not exploited.

The past nine years have undoubtedly been incredibly difficult for Ashlee, and we hope this context encourages compassion rather than judgment. As reported, after giving birth to Melodee, Ashlee experienced the loss of Melodee’s father six months later. We believe she may have been experiencing untreated postpartum depression in addition to the grief from the loss of Melodee’s Father on top of her mental health struggles. All this while trying to do her best to hold it all together as a single Mom with little resources.

Our sole priority remains the safe return of Melodee and getting Ashlee the help she needs. We ask for privacy at this time, we will not be making any further statements. It is not our desire nor do we feel its productive to use the media or social media for anything other than bringing public awareness of Melodee’s disappearance. We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist authorities.

We would also like to thank all law enforcement agency’s involved in working to bring Melodee home." – The Maternal Family of Ashlee and Melodee Buzzard

The person in the hoodie doesn't seem to have Melodee's face and nose shape.

I thought the same thing
The person in the hoodie doesn't seem to have Melodee's face and nose shape.
. Even if she lost her baby fat, the nose is off. IMO
ETA: in the hoodie picture

the neighbors and school employees who'd seen her in the last few months should be able to answer whether that picture is how she looks nowadays

concern for being fair to ashlee is important, but a distant second to finding melodee and ensuring her well-being. talking about ashlee's mental health is relevant to the latter. if some people are going too far and making unfair assumptions, and saying stuff on big platforms, ok fine... but ashlee's family can't expect people to just not talk about it. especially when they themselves are the source of some of it.

Surely they had people who have seen her recently confirm before releasing the images

Great to hear some sense from people in her family. I'm really relieved to hear that there's someone or someones who have her back in a practical and level-headed way and are putting the safety and wellbeing of Ashlee and Melody first.

Personally I don't care about Ashlee but just about the innocent child. Ashlee has created this mess all on her own. JMO

If the picture of the girl in the hoodie is Melodee, then she’s slimmed down.
A lot! She looks almost gaunt. I might have thought it was a boy, too. But someone else helpfully commented that the pics were taken probably 4 or 5 years apart, so that might be all it is. I still think it's possible she might be somewhat malnourished and underweight in the hoodie pic. In fact, I don't see how they are so sure that it is her.
