Michael Edward Williamson
Date of birth: ca 1956
Crime scene location: 100 block Carolyn Street, Ukiah, Mendocino County CA
On 2 August 2000, Ukiah CA firefighters found Michael's body while suppressing a fire in a home. Michael had been beaten to death, and an arson fire set to destroy evidence of the homicide.
Jerred R. Hernandez, a 19 year old drug addict, was identified as the malefactor. Hernandez fled to Mexico.
In May 2013, Mexican police arrested Hernandez in Ensenada Mexico; he was deported to the US and held in the San Diego jail. Ukiah Police Department detectives interviewed him there, and arranged his return to the Mendocino County jail. They discovered that Hernandez was murderously outraged by Williamson's refusal to join him in a midnight chicken barbecue.
The arrest and extradition of Hernandez was a complex affair. It involved more than just the Ukiah PD, although they were the primary agency. Also involved in the takedown were Mexico's Baja California State Police, the U.S. Attorney's Office, U.S. Customs officials, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
In March 2014, Hernandez was sentenced to 32 years to life for first degree murder. His first parole hearing is due in 2045.
