Sheriff's detectives are trying to determine the identity of a man who was apparently shot to death and then dumped along Highway 41 east of Morro Bay four to six weeks ago.
The decomposed body of a slightly built Mexican, Indian or Asian man was found over a bank on the south side of the highway Saturday about 6.3 miles east of Morro Bay, detectives said.
An autopsy done Sunday showed the man died of multiple gunshot wounds, they said.
His body was discovered about 1 p.m. Saturday by a man who was planning to target shoot in the area, said detectives. The man and other target shooters notified Morro Bay police, who then called the Sheriff's Department.
Detectives said the man was about 5-foot-7 and had a thin build. He had medium-length black hair and appeared to have a goatee or some other sort of beard, they said. He also had several tatoos [sic].
"Identity of Morro dead man remains mystery," Santa Maria Times, 25 July 1983, 3.

He had numerous tattoos, [County Coroner Don] Hines said, and was wearing Jordache jeans, a navy blue tank top with white stripes on the sides and leather shoes.
An autopsy conducted Sunday indicated he had been dead between four and six weeks, the coroner stated. He did not disclose the number of times the man had been shot, nor the type of weapon used.
