One person is dead and at least five others are injured after a large eucalyptus tree fell Saturday on a wedding party in Southern California, officials said.

The incident occurred about 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Penn Park in Whittier, about 20 miles east of Los Angeles.

[...]

Officials did not identify or give further details about the victims, aside from noting that a 4-year-old was in critical condition as a result of head trauma, according to a statement by the city Saturday.

A wedding party was taking pictures after the ceremony when a 100-foot tall eucalyptus tree fell, trapping up to 20 people, the fire department said. Chainsaws were used to remove those who were trapped underneath the tree's branches.

This would be sad any time, but especially sad it happened on what should have been a joyous occasion.

^sbm In vid ~1min:30sec, appears imo to be the bride sitting (on ground? on a log?) talking to first responders. Maybe w blood on bodice of her gown?

Does anyone see (apparent?) groom in vid? Thx in adv.

{ETA: sad, sad, sad.}

{ETA#2: 2nd vid, ~ 2min to 2;10, we can see huuuuuuuuuge tree on ground. No wonder there were ~20 ppl injured.}

There is a huge old oak tree that splits the property line between my grandmother and my aunts house. On my wedding day it split and crashed through my aunts house taking out her entire new addition, a bedroom, and the entire entry way. But had it fallen the otherway it would have most definitely killed my grandmother.

I can't imagine the pain this family is going through and i am grateful every day that only a house and boat were destroyed on mine.

Wow. So glad nobody was injured in your situation.

I have seen lots of trees after they fall due to ice storms and large branches that fell and sometimes a tree is about to go and its like the straw that broke the camels back in that it takes just a little bit more to get one to topple.

Were there a lot of people going in and out of her house during your wedding when your tree example fell? Trying to see if there is some pattern to this situation of why there tee may have fell.

Ive been wondering if all the people moving about around it pressed down the soil just enough near the roots where it went ahead and fell and may have been about to go.

Trees go down very quickly when they finally give way. I have sawed a few smaller ones down and it always surprises me how quick they tumble.
