Interstate 5, which runs from the Mexican to Canadian borders, was closed today in the fire area. The traffic map said it would be closed until Jan. 25, but this article says it will open tonight. If it stays closed, it will severely impact deliveries north and south.

Authorities closed the I-5 Freeway earlier in the day to allow personnel to swiftly respond to the fire. Luna said they plan to reopen the major thoroughfare Wednesday night.

"We needed to have better ingress and regress for emergency vehicles coming through the 5 Freeway corridor," Luna said. "We want to give the 5 back to our community."

The LA Times says that Interstate 5 reopened on Wednesday evening.

It also says that the Hughes fire was 14% contained as of Wednesday night.

LA braces itself as another large fire breaks out that's grown to more than 10,000 acres

Los Angeles was bracing itself yet again Thursday after a new fire broke out north of the city that has so far spread to more than 10,000 acres.

The Hughes Fire started at about 10:50 a.m. local time Wednesday near Castaic, north of Los Angeles. It was first reported at about 50 acres — but soon mushroomed to more than 10,000 acres by midnight, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire. As of Thursday morning, it was 14% contained.

"Wildfires spared Olympic venues in L.A.,

but the city's rebuild could impact

runup to 2028 Olympic Games.

The runup to the city hosting
the 2028 Summer Olympics and Paralympics,
in addition to World Cup matches in 2026

and a Super Bowl in '27,
will coincide with massive rebuilding of housing and infrastructure.

That seems cruelly ironic after Los Angeles organizers sold the Games as
a no-build event."

'Southern California faces a long and difficult recovery from the wildfires.

On top of that,
Los Angeles is scheduled to host some of the biggest sporting events in the world in the next few years.

Some critics have already called for those events to be moved.
Others say those events will actually help the rebuilding process."

Hoping and praying the weather conditions change and new wildfires stop breaking out. It looks like it might rain some in SoCal this weekend. I'm in inner San Diego and it's been a long time since we've had a good rain.

While the new fire raged, the two deadly fires that have ravaged Los Angeles since Jan. 7 came under greater control, Cal Fire said.

SOME RAIN--
Looks like some rain for both LA & San Diego counties.

This was in San Diego county yesterday. I wonder how the man burned his hands. I'm thinking he might've tried to put out the fire, but I'll admit, I'm suspicious of it, too. Interested to hear his story. You can see the man in the video.

...he saw someone getting medical attention after they were hurt by flames.

“And the guy that burned. His hands were all burnt and bandaged. I don’t know what happened or what he was doing up there with the fire,” Plauske said. “You can see him. He just sitting there shaking his head and he has bandages on his hand. Pretty horrific for him, I bet.”

Here is one more problem. Not in Pacific Palisades, but in CA in general. Illegal marijuana plantations. Some also draw water for irrigation. I personally don’t mind if it all burns down, but apparently, it is a fire hazard.

Two fires have broke out in San Diego County today. It's getting hard to keep track. It is going to calm down with a weather change this weekend.

"The Gilman Fire"
in La Jolla, in San Diego county, near UCSD, but no immediate threat to the campus. It's near the University of California, San Diego Medical Center at 9420 Athena Circle, Lot P781, and surrounding area that a fire broke up this afternoon. Led to a big traffic jam due to congestion of cars.
Evacuation orders just lifted.

"...70 children in the afterschool program at Torrey Pines Elementary School were sheltering in place waiting to be picked up by parents/guardians,"

Fire with ‘dangerous rate of spread’ erupts at Otay Mountain
The fire, which has been named the
Border 2 Fire,” was reported after 2:15 p.m. in the area of Otay Mountain Truck Trail in the Otay Wilderness Area.

The Otay Mt. Border Fire near the border is burning and the winds were very strong (up 35 mph) scattering the smoke to other areas.
