Although there's been debate over whether to banish the palm trees in Los Angeles,
UCLA Professor Stephanie Pincetl doesn't believe all of them need to be cut down.
'We don’t have to be draconian about this,
but we have to be thoughtful'.
The palm trees are highly flammable,
with their dead fronds turning into embers when sparked that can carry for miles by the wind.
Similarly,
the peeling bark on LA's ubiquitous eucalyptus trees can have the same effect.
