The search for Ms. Van Hoek is particularly urgent given her medical condition, which requires regular medication. Her dementia could make it difficult for her ask for help or return home on her own safely.

Pam Van Hoek is wearing the raincoat above. In addition, she is believed to be carrying a blue purse decorated with a painted panda.

The weather is getting uglier this weekend.

A close friend of the family told us that the Sheriff’s Department has deployed dogs and five different search and rescue teams from across the state, there is also a Coast Guard helicopter scanning the river, and an airplane equipped with state-of-the-art infrared technology is scheduled to canvas the area later today. The focus areas for the search include Redway Beach, Whitmore Grove, and Ravencliff areas.

Diana Totten, well-known participant in a number of searches said at this point they are just asking community members to “just give the search teams space and safety to do the work.“

The urgency of the search is underscored by Ms. Van Hoek’s need for regular medication, which she is currently without. Local residents have been asked to remain vigilant and to approach Ms. Van Hoek with care and compassion should they encounter her, due to the potential for confusion and disorientation caused by her condition.

To aid in the search, the Sheriff’s Department released a poster and a video to help identify Ms. Van Hoek yesterday evening. The last known footage of her was captured in the 300 block of Oakridge Drive.

*Sad news:
Today, the strong efforts of law enforcement, firefighters, and search and rescuers to find a missing senior woman ended tragically.

Lt. Kyle Holt of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to us that Pamela Van Hoek, who was reported missing yesterday, was found deceased in the area of the South Fork of the Eel River. He told us that family members have been notified of the somber outcome this afternoon

Tragic news. I’m so glad they were able to find her though. Condolences to Pam’s family and friends.

I’ve been following this story on Kym’s website as we lived in the area and are quite familiar with Redway. Thanks for posting the latest news @imstilla.grandma. I missed it by a few minutes. I can always count on a WSer!

I didn’t know Pam, but I thought I’d post her FB page to give a sense of the kind of person she was.
