CA CA - Ralf Peeks, 43, San Diego, 21 Apr 2013

  • #41
I am wondering if he is re-thinking his choice to move back to Germany...

He might have found his life in San Diego quite satisfying...

and taking care of an elderly relative... No matter how much that relative is loved... Can be quite a commitment....

this is in NO way diminishing what seems to be a stellar character of this man...

Any updates? I am still thinking about Ralf, wondering where he went.

Ralf is still missing. Wondering what happened to him.

It's coming up on a year. I sincerely hoped there would be good news or at least updates on his case but sadly I don't see anything.

Ralf, where are you?

Can't find him on NamUs. Can't find any news.

  • #47
Any updates? It has been almost 18 months since Ralf vanished.

Catching up. I'm assuming his bike has not been located?

As far I understand, no trace of him or his bike were ever found.

One thing that stands out to me (from first thread) is that just about everyone has a cell phone now, particularly an engineer. I wonder if any of his work colleagues knew why he didn't have one?

Bump. Strange story. What ever happened to Ralf? Voluntary disappearance, accident, or foul play?

Rumors from Reddit or other similar sources are not allowed to be linked or discussed here. Please stick to the facts (information found in MSM & information that comes directly from LE).

I understand it can be frustrating, particularly in older cases where new information is scant, but it is impossible to gauge the veracity of these rumors or to know the person's motivation behind posting them. Posting or refrencing these rumors violates WS rules & TOS.

My guess would be a bike accident off the beaten path, but a hit and run is a definite possibility He could have swerved to avoid an oncoming car or skidded on some loose gravel and taken a header into a ravine. A mountain lion attack, which someone suggested, wouldn't surprise me, either.
His acquaintance mentioned that he sometimes rode his bike all the way to Carlsbad, which would be over 30 miles. Since he was getting ready to move away, maybe he decided to visit someplace new. The potential search area is so large that finding him would be a matter of blind luck.

I think if it was an accident, mountain lion attack, etc, his bike would have been found at some point. Although maybe someone would have just thrown it away without connecting it to his case.

I assume he's still missing, and I still vote "accident." It's very easy to get hurt badly riding a bicycle. Anything can happen. One time I was riding on a rural trail out in Colorado and the trail came to about a four-foot drop off with no warning. I wasn't injured, but if I had landed differently, I
certainly could have been. I can envision something like that (only worse) happening to Ralf. I think that his remains will eventually be found right next to his bike.

After all this time his bike and body have never been found. He must have gone off a area where it's just been impossible to see him. So sad. His friends/family seemed to search as best as they could. I hope one day he is found.

For some reason I was under the impression that he is presumed "voluntarily missing." I'm not sure if it was something I read here, or on another forum.
